Omega 2.0 8v not 16v - Anyone here own an 8v ?????
« on: 07 October 2010, 00:32:33 »

Been looking for a second miggy for swmbo 'cos MV6 Manual not really suitable... thinking low spec, low insurance, auto... so the 8v Select sprung to mind. Can't see any on the bay of E... guessing there might be some 8v owners on the OOF??? This is not a "wanted" post 'cos I don't have the post count & not trying to cut any corners hoping for post to be "moved"... just general interest in the 8v... are there any out there? what colours? looking to sell? swap etc... any PM's welcome  :y

8v is group 12, 16v is group 13. Wouldn`t have thought there  would be a great difference insurance wise

I had an 8V 2.0 Carlton last century.  It was actually quite pleasant – arguably underpowered for the weight of the car but not harsh or noisy.  Easy to work on too.

The local taxi firm used little else – they told me that it is a non-interference design and you could safely drop the cam belts with no valve or piston damage.  Never tested the theory myself.   :)

Select is the trim model like GLS, CD, CDX etc.. nothing to do with engine size other than the fact you'll only find the 8v in a Select because it's the lowest spec mig... Of course the Select 16v was more popular & produced in larger numbers  :y

A very good car IMHO, no frills, less weight, easy to maintain, low insurance & it's an Omega :y swmbo really wants one & spends most nights in a police astra  ;)

I had a 2 litre 8 valve in a Cavalier I'd have thought an Omega would be very under powered.

I had a cavalier expression with an 8v engine in and to be honest it was the most reliable car I have ever owned. When I sold it it had done 160k and still going strong.
