Is that petrol I can smell? Here we go...
« on: 31 August 2007, 18:36:52 »

Leaving to catch a ferry at 6 AM tomorrow and smelt a distinct whiff of petrol when I parked up today.

Look under the car and there's evidence of the fuel filter leaking  >:(

It's clearly been leaking for some time judging by a bit of dirt build up and it looks like it's leaking from the filter itself, where the 2 parts of the can are crimped together, although I didn't want to pull it about too much as it's not leaking enough to cause too much of an issue and I didn't want it to open up to a gusher.

Guess I'd better dash to Halfords before they close as I'd rather have one in the toolbox.  :(

If you've got a petrol leak you may not be allowed to board the ferry :(

TBH I don't think it's major enough that anyone'll notice. Got under there with the engine running and can't actually feel any wetness but there's a lot of dirt around the seal and if you scrape it off it smells of petrol. Maybe it only leaks as the pressure drops when it's parked up :-/

Anyway, I've got a replacement filter for the toolkit now, and a load of fuel line and clips in case I have to improvise something. I'm less inclined to try and change it now just in case it opens up a can of worms, I.E. disturbing the fuel lines opens up a leak in one of the lines.

I've got european breakdown cover...

I knew I shouldn't have been so happy that my crank sensor failed at home rather than in Italy  :(
