Restoration Project !!!
« on: 15 May 2016, 20:31:16 »

Hi Guys
Its been a while since I've been on last, but I'm looking for some advise. I'm currently in the process of putting up a garage at the side of the house (24x22) and intend fitting a scissor lift. It has been a bit of a thing for me for a long time now and getting a bit older I've decided to try something now. Getting a lot of work done to house and therefore I hope to have garage ready for mid/end Sept.
A big dream for me was to restore a favorite car of mine and thus here I am. Now when I say restore, I mean like Wheeler Dealers type of stuff and solely for my own amusement. I wouldn't care how long it sat for as long as I knew I'd did it right. For all you enthusiasts and mechanic's out there, I myself am no mechanic but I can manage my way around a car, your run of the mill stuff like brakes, shocks etc. just not deep into the engine.

         I had '96 Omega 2.5td & '00 Omega 2.5td, 2 fantastic saloon cars, I might add.

I think what I'm trying to ask is that my choice of car would be Omega C with the BMW engine 00 - 03 model.

Would any of you guys have done something like this and maybe have some pics I could see, or what I should look for.

Any advise would be welcome !!!

Apologies to Admin, if I have posted this incorrectly.

No such thing as an Omega C  :P

Sounds like a good project, but worth remembering here and Ireland only briefly had the 2.5 TD in Facelift Omega B. Post 2001 it was fitted with the 2.2 DTi instead, so your options will be extremely limited.  :(

If southern Ireland, Open might have produced the 2.5 DTi :y

Not sure who could be asked... But we have seen factory 3.2 CDXs so a right hooker 2.5 DTi whilst rare is not impossible... Certainly no physical reason why it couldn't have been done :-\

The later BMW engine is to wide on the right side so the steering gear does not fix....hence no right hand drive version available.

Interesting, was that the reason the 2.2 DTi was used instead?

It's also the reason why V8 E39 BMWs retained the steering box, whereas the other engines allowed for a rack.

Getting everything in is hard enough when you can just scatter the bits wherever there is room for them, but steering components aren't like that.

Hi davieboy, thought as much. The reason I asked is that I was a National Windscreens man myself based in N. Ireland but not the automotive end, I would have and still am fitting Bus & Coach Glass, but still have a lot of old friends there.

A lot of good replies on here guys, thx. I have been looking thru various sites and it seems the good old fashion BMW 2.5td are extremely hard to find.

Thought about a 2.5 V6 ?   Over here seems to be very diesel orientated.

Any thoughts ?

thx
