General Car Chat / Wanted: Coil packs 2.6
« on: 13 November 2015, 15:59:09 »
The incomparable Serek replaced my cam covers and serviced me a week or so ago, as I have mentioned on here earlier, and having found the plug wells swimming in oil, advised me that the coils were likely to fail when the oil covering dries out and would need to be replaced.
In anticipation of this unhappy event, does anyone have serviceable units for sale, please?

My original post:-

"Last Wednesday, I went to his place to have my cam covers changed as they were leaking over hot exhaust and creating embarrassing smoke, and as service was due, had that done to make the journey more worth while.
He fitted the cam covers that I got from someone on the forum, adjusted the handbrake, changed all filters, including the fuel filter, and new plugs too, cleaned the breathers and of course a new oil filter - all for a good price.
I won’t say how much, because price isn’t the only reason: integrity, careful workmanship and trust that a good and honest job will be done are also important factors.
There was a small cause  for concern, however. After the oil change, Serek spotted a small oil leak from the filter, so he re-seated it and it appeared to stop leaking.
On my way home, the "Chack oil level" message came on and when I looked after arriving home, it was off the bottom of the dipstick.
I messaged the next day, asking what was the most likely cause, so that I could get it sorted locally rather than drive all the way back to him for such an apparently trivial problem and - this is the incredible part - he offered to come to me and fit a new gasket at my place, at no cost to me!
Obviously I couldn't allow him to spend all that time away from his business, never mind the fuel cost, so he is sending me a gasket and I'll get my local garage to fir the gasket. Maybe they will charge be less than an hour's labour?
But honestly, what a man! I know of no other business man who would offer to do that and it shows exactly why he is so well regarded on the forum."

Today's update:-

So, today Serek messaged me saying that rather than send me the gasket and trust another garage to fit it, etc., he would come to me and fit it himself – “Will it be ok for me to come at 7:30 PM?”

At 7:25 he appeared, at 7:50 he was gone, job done! A million thanks, Serek, you are a saint: THAT is the stuff legends are made of!!!!!

Beat that for service, Oofers - not even Kwik-Fit is as good....... ::)

General Car Chat / Why no variable wiper delay?
« on: 03 October 2015, 23:10:42 »
My first Omega, a GL spec, had a variable wiper delay potentiometer on the stalk. I now have a CDX spec. Omega, surely a higher level of features, but with only one fixed wiper delay.
Why?

General Car Chat / A challenge, gentlemen.....
« on: 24 August 2015, 23:33:22 »
Actually, considering the expertise on this forum, I doubt that it's much of a challenge.
My problem?
I was replaqcing the filler door locking solenoid a while back and managed to pull a wire off - yellow, it is. I am unable to take/load a photo, so therein lies the challenge - where the **** does that yellow wire come from/go to? It emanates from the solenoid connector, but I cannot see any evidence or witness marks/signs to indicate where it belongs.
I have a small, unspoken, private bet with myself as to who will answer this for me..... :-X

I had an email today from Breakeryard.com, regarding a news item:-

http://www.breakeryard.com/blog/cardigan-proves-parking-impacts-economy/?utm_source=Customers-10-2013&utm_campaign=a8fbaf0fd6-August_2015_P_to_Z_Newsletter_2015&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_c085751039-a8fbaf0fd6-77727197

Despite local people having shown that they clearly want these restrictions removed - they have voted with their cars - and local traders having benefitted too, they are determined to re-instate these unwanted motorist-milking machines. Think of the money they would save by not having to buy new machines and also not needing to pay staff to service and empty them....
I could understand it if the article also reported parking chaos and/or massive congestion in the town as a result of there being no restrictions, but the report did not suggest this; presumably because the machines in question were actually in car parks and not on the street?

Of course, the townspeople OWN the car parks anuway, so why should they be charged a parking fee for using what they already own?

This Saint of a man supplied and fitted an alternator for me this morning and I'm eternally grateful.
Thanks Al.

General Car Chat / Wanted: Alternator for 2.6 V6, please.
« on: 14 June 2015, 21:24:08 »
First the starter motor (my thanks to Essex Big Al for his invaluable help there :y) and now the alternator - left me stranded in wildest Bedfordshire last Saturday when the battery emptied itself!
Why didn't the "no-charge" light come on to warn me?  >:(
Anyway, it seems that I have no output from the alternator and I'm hoping that an OOFer might have a suitable one for sale, please?

General Discussion Area / In praise of Essex Big Al.......
« on: 08 June 2015, 14:08:43 »
Al came to me to fit the starter moter that he had sold me, as no other forum member had come to my aid, and did a splendid job, quickly and efficiently despite my car being half in the road.
All assembled and reconnected, turned the key - absolute silence! It can't be low battery, can it, because Al had a 12v inspection lamp on the battery minutes ago? I nearly worried a little.....
Phew, it WAS the battery!

Thanks a million, Al.

My thanks to Al, who has just kindly delovered a starter motor to me.
May I make another plea on here for one of OOF's mobile mechanics to fit it for me, please?

Has anyone had any experience of the above Cataclean treatment liquid? I had an email promoting it - £16.99 from Halfords - and it is reputed to clean the catalytic converters prior to the dreaded emissions test at MOT time......
