General Discussion Area / Built in time delay
« on: 11 September 2007, 23:41:21 »
In view of the sad, uncomfortable, and IMHO, unneccesary departure from the forum of an upset member this evening, in a situation which appeared to go from bad to worse in 4.5 seconds - and as the person has "left" is apparently now unresolvable - may I humbly suggest that a built in time delay of at least 24 hours becomes standard between the request for removal and it actually occuring.

This would allow a "rethink" period, if no contact was made then the removal goes ahead. I fully accept that folks wish to leave, but the old adage of "post in haste, repent at leisure" seems to apply and a little added time might alleviate things

Just my thoughts

General Discussion Area / TC - simplicity itself !
« on: 11 September 2007, 17:10:17 »
Went to Skurray's, Hillmead, Swindon this afternoon to use the TC for the first time, and after reading some of the problems stated in other threads I was expecting the worst .. never happened !

Guy on the parts counter took one look at the card, said "ahh autobahnstormers - Lotus Carlton is it?".. I said "No Omega Elite" .. he said "nice - you don't need to register as we already have them on the system - what are you after? " .... we went through my list - antifreeze is out of stock, all the rest was there within 5 minutes, and I got a discount on the non-tradeclub bits as well !

Total saving I reckon was about £65 and the card cost £20 !! So more than paid for on its first use.

Well impressed  :)

General Discussion Area / Intrigued .....

Having just obtained a TC via the autobahnstormers route it has left me slightly intrigued ....

ABS have TC status as a club, obviously recognised by Vauxhall, and they have 335 registered users on the web site, and just under 2000 members .. going by my membership number.

OOF don't have Trade Club status but have 1600 registered members....

Now common sense says the only difference, membership wise, is that ABS charge £20 a year to join, and OOF is free, surely this is not the reason OOF is not recognised by Vauxhall ?? (I am assuming here that Vx have been asked at some point)

I appreciate that there may be some reason that is not for the public domain, or it has been discussed at length before and I just can't find it, in which case please just lock/delete this thread, however if there is a reason that can be given out I would love to know why OOF is not Vx/TC recognised.

Okies .. more daft questions from me ... :( as I intend to do a lot more work myself .....

I've trawled the site for everything I can about Trade Club card and think I have the basics ...

1. You get one via Autobahnstormers for £20

2. Most (?) Vx stealers should take it

3. Savings are very good and it pays for itself fast.

The bits I don't have info on .... :(

Some posts mention a "Trade Club Book" and/or "item not on TC" ... I assume this means that not all parts are available ... so how do get a copy of the "book" in order to check, and does the contents apply to all Vx stealers ?

Any other info .. good or bad .. on TC would be appreciated before I apply for one

Thanks

Always happens  :(

As we've been on holiday 3 weeks the MOT was put off until today - runs out tomorrow, so all booked in for this afternoon and ready to roll ...... driving down the M4 this morning a dumper truck dropped a gurt lump of muck right in front of me .. I now have some very annoying dents in the front bumper.. but worse was the darned hole it made in the front offside light, now thats an instant MOT fail and with no time to sort it has just cost me £195 inc the VAT....  :(    £40 labour and £155 for a new light unit ... and the beast flew through the MOT as expected.

Why don't these things happen when you have time to fix them yourself ??

Just a quick "Thank you" for all the help over the ABS ECU .. all fixed and working well for the past week, so we are off to France tomorrow with the 'van on the back.

Hopefully actually get some piccies of the miggy to post on my return - amazing .. had it 6 years and not a single photo !!

Thanks again and I'll be back ( now you are stuck with me !!) to an excellent site .. boy am I learning a lot just lurking ....  around the 19th Aug

Prepare yourselves for more questions on front brake discs/pads and gearbox updates .. trying to persaude "her ladyship" that we should join you in Wales .. some resistance at the moment ....  "boys and their toys" is a recurring phrase !!!

Once again .. thanks .. we wouldn't be going without the help from here .. see you all later  :)
