End of an era
« on: 04 June 2013, 18:40:27 »

After 16 years of owning Carltons and Omegas I have decided it's time for a change. I have just bought a C350, and the Mig goes on Saturday. I will be very sorry to part with the old Mig, and I hope the new car gives me as much pleasure as the Mig did. Here is the Mig replacement:

Hope I can find a Mercedes forum as good as this one!

Richard.

Not quite the same car but I bought a 2006 C Class as a Mig replacement, I'm now happy as a pig in yon stuff that I'm back in a mig. Both forums are poor IMO but I hope you have a better experience than I did

I think a Merc of some kind is likely to be most ex-Senator/Carlton/Omega owners' replacement, it's one of a very few rear wheel drive cars left on the road these days. I know that FWD is much better these days, but it's still not quite the same as driving a RWD car .... even when you're not trying to be especially 'enthusiastic'. The trouble with buying a Merc though, is that everyone seems to be different in some way, and it all depends on what the first owner ticked on the options list, unlike an Elite Omega, where the only option was leather or velour.  :y

Good luck with it mate, hope you enjoy it.  Guess you felt, like a few of us, that its time to move on, away from Omegas, and that you can buy a modern executive car now for sensible money.  Fraid its a fact of life that however good an Omega Elite was, thats now well in the past, and there are nowv better, more modern options available.

It's not quite that bad, and what is the first question on here to a member's query, 'have you read the code' or 'what code is shown'........... :D :D  Not that I am suggesting that it is anywhere near as good as OOF which does seem to be unique..... :y :y  Now if TB were to buy a Merc.... ;) ;)

He certainly is/was. Not sure whether he'll be back or not, although I believe he's been banned before & returned. I think he's in his early 80s & he looks after his wife who is suffering from dementia.

Certain forum members (mods included) don't seem to want to cut him any slack

I agree on both counts.

I detect a clique too ......... though the same has been said of here by newbies when they are confronted by loads of established OOFers that have met each other in the flesh & have already made good friends.  :y

I'm not so sure there is a clique as such on OOF, there is a certain intolerance sometimes which I think is a bit much but that Merc place was a forum that had a handful of members and the rest were just there to make it look popular ;D

That is a lovely merc and some nice options on there too - Merc forum I use is MBClub.co.uk and I have found it pretty good for a quick browse but have to say very little has gone wrong with it and haven't posted that much - there can be some "eliteness" (no pun intended) on there with the boys that have a brand new merc and like to pose questions such as "what super expensive wax to use" etc,  but on the whole it's ok.

Hope the merc serves you well - very nice :)
