Omega General Help / Re: Gearbox oil to change or not to change
« on: 31 March 2018, 17:22:58 »
Well i filled it up from cold on stands, Then turned the engine over and run the gears for a few mins to fill the small sump.
Then topped up.
Then on the stands i warmed the gearbox up running all the gears for about 15 mins.
Tried to top up again but it didn't need any extra oil.
Then i took it for a drive around for about 5 miles but not checked the level since.
Not if if i need to check it again before making any longer trips....

Well gearbox oil has been changed.
New filter and gaskets from JPAT.
Just under 5 liters of oil have been changed with Fuchs AFT 4000.
The small sump had no plastic bits inside but the magnet in the 2nd large sump was very gunge.
Couldn't help but poke it with my finger.  ::)
I have taken her for a spin round the block and it seams to change up and down fine but time will tell.
The old oil was rather dark......

Omega General Help / Gearbox oil to change or not to change
« on: 26 March 2018, 19:45:17 »
Hi all,
Just a quick shout out for advise.
After a successful weekend changing the Cambelt, plugs and oil my attention turns to the gearbox.
The car is a 2003 with the ar25 gearbox. It’s done 107k miles but has never had any gearbox work done.
I can’t feel or hear any issues from the box but I’m thinking maybe I should change the oil and filter.
What’s you thoughts?

If you want a straight swap with the same backing plate then the kit K035453XS would be the one if your engine number is 08578512 or over. Should be a sticker on the cam covers.
That's the most expensive option from what i can tell.
I am looking at getting an older kit K015453XS or K025453XS then swapping the pulleys over with my current newer backing plate.
This should be around half the cost if the parts are interchangeable?
Thanks

Sound good to me. I am on the hunt for a older kit then.
Swap the pulleys and tensioners with the current backing plate and we should be good to go.
Thanks for your help.  :y

I would be interested to know. I am going to be changing the cambelt on my 2.6 shortly.
I will need the GM kit 93172354 or gates kit K035453XS.
I currently have a gates kit installed so not sure if i can get away with swapping the pulleys and tensioners with the current backing plate.
From what i have read the belts are all the same (as in number of teeth) so any V6 kit should be fine.
The part i am not sure is i think my current kit has a static pulley on the lower mount but the older kits come with another tensioner to adjust the 3-4 cams.
Not sure if that would be an issue or not?

Hi Nick,
That would be very kind, Thanks for the offer. Beer tokens will be provided.  :y
Any ideas on the best kit to buy?
I have been looking at the ECP one not sure if that the best? Looks to be about £110 with the always on discount.  ::)
Any idea's what the Vauxhall Trade Club price is?

Omega General Help / 2018 Rally Ready Omega Estate
« on: 03 December 2017, 20:50:38 »
Hi All,
New here but though i would start a thread to detail out some of the work i am planning on getting done to my new Omega Estate for the Barcelona Rally i am doing in 2018.
After searching long and hard for the right car i stumble onto a Omega owned by a fellow OOF member.
She has been loved but i need a little attention to get her ready for the 1500 mile or so rally next year.
Some of the tasks on my list:

Oil + Filter change
New Pads front
Front Tyre

and then the hardest job of them all
Cambelt
This is the one item that is well past due so will need to be done in the new year.
Tho i might need some assistance if anyone is able to or willing to loan me a locking kit?

There was a good discount day at ECP so i have already stocked up on some bits for new year

Other tasks will be to get her ready for the rally,
Im not sure i have the heart to fully spray her in some random color and totally destroy the bodywork.
But im sure we can get some wrap or loads of stickers.

I also had a good few years ago a Kenwood DNX7000 for a Vectra C. I have this in the loft so i hope i can get that connected up as it has the SatNav etc inbuilt.
Just need to also work out what to do with the BOSE system installed.

Loads to do but plenty of time to get her ready for the rally

Newbie Welcome Area / Hello From Tonbridge Kent
« on: 03 December 2017, 20:20:00 »
Hi All,
First post here but though i would say Hello to you all.
I have recently acquired a fellow OOF member car.
She is a 2.6 V6 Elite Estate with hopefully plenty of life left to give.
Its been well looked after with a fully service history most of at the main stealers.

My self and some friends have been looking for a car to do a charity rally to Barcelona next year.
And when this came up for sale a stones throw from my house how could i say no.

I have been reviewing what needs to be done to get her ready for the 1500 mile trip but i think she will need to come home with me.
Im not sure i could leave her to be scraped in Spain. She has been so well look after it would be criminal.

Any way, I will be starting a page with progress on getting her ready for the rally next year.
But here is how she currently stands.
Thanks for viewing
