Title: Fuel Filter Change
Post by: tunnie on 08 November 2017, 13:53:16
Do you need the special tool to remove the pipework? Remember fatty admin had a gadget, can I just it with basic tools? 3.2 one is rather old  :-[

Must do mine some time.  ;D

I think I've got the tool somewhere. Never tried it, though. ::)

You can do it without the specialist tool, just pliers.  But I now use the prescribed tool when I change the filter. ;)

This is the set of tools I bought:

I didn't know there was a specific tool  ??? The fuel filter fittings are similar to other push fit fittings I've used & i tend to use the side of an adjustable spanner to push the collar while I pull the hose/pipe

Can be done with just screwdrivers, but if its been on a while (and you've had that car 6(?) years, its going to be a PITA.

*Much* easier with the tools, hence I have a set, but certainly not a necessity for most.  Knowing you, though, I would probably not attempt without the tools (not meaning to sound rude/unkind).

Buy the 2 plastic clips as well. Chances are they won't break, but they do get brittle with age, and you're fooooked if you break one.

Happy to sit drinking tea laughing at you do it, if you ever get back up this way.

Have some 10mm fuel hose and some small jubilee clips to hand if it all goes Pete Tong and the brittle lines break.

I made this temporary repair....... 5 years ago  ;D
