General Discussion Area / BBC 2 now...

Fact or fiction? I genuinely cannot tell :o

As above, plugs into socket about 2" from interior light unit and splits to the sunvisor plugs at top of A posts.

As above... there's a few bits that I am after.

1. Cable tray cover (with or without the cable tray) that runs across the front of the engine.
2. Roll up or metal dog guard preferred (once common on plod estates) but only the genuine ones.
3. Charcoal Load cover, with end caps, must be facelift.
4. Scuttle drain grommet, pollen filter side.
5. Set of carpet mats.
6. Working front central locking motor.
7. Pair of charcoal screw covers from front door card.
8. Cruise control stalk and clutch switch (with length of loom).
9. Pair of working two button remote fobs, button condition not important.

The load cover, load net and mats aren't urgent, and will obviously need collecting/oof couriering unless all from same person, in which case postage becomes viable.

Much obliged. :y

Omega General Help / Yellow headlights?

As above.

Before splashing out on wet and dry or restoration kits, try some G3 compound first...

Pics here:

Left is before, right is after. Ok, they're still a touch yellow, but for 2 minutes effort on both sides, it has to be work a go. :y

Is this a) correct and b) a sensible price?

https://www.atp-autoteile.at/de/product/977569-skf-wasserpumpe-zahnriemensatz/v-13648

No idea when it was last changed, so needs to be on the job list sooner rather than later...

Wasn't working when I collected the car, no led.

Fitted new battery, and lights up when buttons pressed, but does nothing when pressed with key in position 2 as per manual :-\

Omega General Help / Desmond codes...
« on: 12 October 2017, 06:41:34 »
Checked the codes on the new acquisition... Only 4 ::)

0170
0335
0340
1555

Hesitates slightly under load, which might explain the 1555, will clean the throttle body to address that, and hopefully in turn this will help the 0170 :-\

Any further opinion on either of these?

General Car Chat / Autel code reader for '52 Desmond
« on: 10 October 2017, 17:53:58 »
As above, as EML has just popped on ::)

Car has been stood for a while and needs a service, so probably something and nothing, but never had a code reader for the Omega.

General Discussion Area / Windows XP Pro 32 Q
« on: 12 September 2017, 18:50:17 »
Just setting this up on the Toughbook, it's a genuine retail SP2 and I have installed it onto a brand new 120GB hard drive.

Given my intended use of it and the fact that it is no longer supported, should I select Automatic Updates or not?

(RAM will be receiving a 1GB update as soon as it arrives, if that has any bearing...)

Have just acquired one of the above with a view to using it on the car... plan to use iCarsoft MB 7.4 initially, then later Star C3/4. Might also load DICE on it for Volvo (or its marine equivalent).

Toughbook is complete and working with hard drive (40gb) and memory (256mb) but no software either supplied or installed. Also no cdr/DVD drive (no space), although it has two USB ports.

It is wireless capable and can take a SIM, but not planning on connecting it to tinterweb unless absolutely vital as I will need to run it on Windows XP :-X

I have a few questions...

1. What size hard drive to replace current IDE one? Thinking 1 or 2 TB 2.5" SATA with adaptor.

2. Apparently I can triple the RAM to 768, presumably this will be beneficial.

3. Will any cheapy external USB cd/dvd drive be suitable for loading software on to it? Any recommendations?

4. Which version of XP would be recommended? 32/64bit? Pro or not? I have a copy of 32 Pro with original discs somewhere, but it's cheap enough new.

Budget for all of the above is 100-150, which looks vaible from a quick scout around, even at PC World prices.

General Discussion Area / Trying to find out...

How many people are repatriated to the UK on regular flights rather than by private air ambulance.

Have spoken to a few airlines and insurance companies, but nobody actually knows ???

I would have thought that any Government figures would be publicly available given that they know how much the average broken ankle costs the Benidorm Massive, but apparently not :-\

Presumably left with either the Foreign Office or an FOI request :-\
