General Discussion Area / Heating advice
« on: 12 January 2018, 18:04:06 »
I had to drain down central heating to replace a part (DTM - had to replace olives as well, else it weeped), and what came out was black-ish, but also had black bits in as well.

Worth running a cleaner through, then drain again, before refilling with 2 bottles of inhibitor?

General Car Chat / Oil. How hard can it be.

Grrrr. I swear most of these specs are there just to make it impossible, so you end up buying the properly expensive stuff  >:(

Found a couple that meet the spec, at a not too outrageous £30 for 5l.

I hope actually changing it is easier than trying to find it ;D.  Guessing not, seeing as no dipstick, and all geared up for sucking out (but does have a sump plug, but its a pig to get to).  Chuck in 5l, wait 10m, then read the level, and repeat from there?

...she wants to know what toys I want for Crimbo.  And, as usual, I have no idea.

Can the OOF membership give me inspiration?

Is pointless.

Another day, and again the slug is chugging along at 35mph.

Car is so much less hassle, even taking into account the average modern tree hugging child on board shitbox drivers. Esp Nissan drivers

Fed up with picking up silly fines for work put me on work to rule ;D

So my trip to Sheffield yesterday was driven at the speed limit.  I thought with less than half a tank when I set out I was going to have to fill up. But it made it there and back on quarter of a tank, if the gauge is to be believed.  It will need filling up before Colindale tomorrow though, as it had a special treat on the way back from work today...   ...a proper spanking.

My own HP 6720s laptop, from the Vista era, isn't getting long from its battery again.  Its on its 3rd.

Dilemma - buy another battery, or replace it?  Trouble with latter is so few now have keyboards without the numeric pad.

General Discussion Area / OOF Outage
« on: 08 October 2017, 12:35:38 »
Unfortunately we suffered a bizarre incident last night that caused everything here to fail...  ...including the alerting system, which meant it went undetected until early this morning.

Clearly we are back up and running, but we will have to go down again for an hour or so later to resync the databases - not quite sure when, as I still have a lot to do getting all the infrastructure up and running.

It looks like we had a near simultaneous failure of 2 of our 3 storage solutions, one being a hyperconverged, high availability one, and the other being a standalone SAN solution. Trying to work back through the logs to see if it genuinely was 3 simultaneous storage server failures (unlikely) or 2 simultaneous hypervisor failures (unlikely), or something common that I haven't yet found (likely).

Sorry, as always, for the outage, and the fact you've probably had to talk to wives/partners or go down the pub!

If you host your Avatar on Photobucket, and are impacted by there recent policy change about using on 3rd party websites, can you modify your avatar so it isn't hosted on Photobucket.

Cheers
