Car Parts, bits For Sale & Wanted / main cooling radiator
« on: 19 September 2018, 17:18:47 »
I have a main cooling radiator for a facelift omega 2.2 automatic was fitted to my  2002 model for just one year so is in great nick however there is a slight snag,,,, the automatic has a separate oil cooler that is bolted to the front of the radiator but who ever fitted this rad just cable tied the oil cooler to the front of it and it worked as it should with no probs as regard the size of the rad it is correct and the  hose connections and switch connections are the same as the omega but this rad has the oil cooler inside the rad on the left hand side as viewed from the front I believe it fits other omegas maybe a bit earlier years as I say only a year old and was removed on several occasions because of overheating so some marks on it  and it turned out it was the head gasket so scrapped the car.  collection only from LU5 area Houghton Regis Dunstable border,, rad fan air con fan and oil cooler rad as well for 2.2 f/lift available all free to collector rather than dump the lot  so any more info required please  just ask...thanks..

« on: 29 September 2016, 09:49:08 »
ok so i know it may not be the right placeto sell my desmond but i thought i would stick it on here and see if there is any interest to you genuine guys for a few days before putting it up for sale elsewhere and get the tyre kickers,so ...its an omega 2.2  2002 on a 51 plate..saloon automatic in gay gold...some previous history in service book and i have recorded all that i have done...i bought this in march 2015,,with mot and timing belt and water pump replaced..also new battery i had it fully serviced and cam cover gasket genuine vauxhall replaced..june 15 fitted after market reverse sensors..head light washers..july 15 new exhaust from the cat back and new genuine rear brake pads..august 15 the new water pump leaked so had that replaced, sept 15 head gasket went so had that all done along with another cam belt as it had been off twice so better safe than sorry..november 15 fitted cdx rims along with a brand new set of tyres,so only done about 3000 miles..brighter head light bulbs fitted,,feb 16 fitted charcoal grey leather interior...last month the front suspension was changed with new gas struts, new springs, new top bearings,,new drop links,,new front discs and pads and suspension set up was done afterwards,,,in the boot there are a brand new pair of Sachs spring ready to be fitted..last week i replaced the cam sensor with a genuins g.m unit as the old one was playing up and now every thing is ok..that has left the spanner light on and needs putting out with a tech 2 as i have tried 2 other makes of hand held and they will not put it out...am told it may go out in time on its own,,,thats the main part of my car,,inbetween all of that she has had 3 oil changes and  has been well looked after..i will try to put pics on here to show the car,,,,on top of front bumper a couple of scratches..n.s.rear door very light rub marks on door strip that were there when i bought it and would rub out but they never bothered me..rear bumper right hand rear corner has marks where some sort of light contact has happend before i got it...and a mark on the front right wing where it looks as if someone at some time has leaned into the engine bay and marked the paintwork....no s rear arch has a small rust patch and was also there when i bought it.....i will try to point these bits out in the pics,,every thing else is all ok and works well...there is bound to be more that i have done so any questions please just ask...price is £450..and is in dunstable/houghton regis border..post code LU5...welcome to view ,,car is on sorn..reg number is fm51bwz  so you can look it up..thanks...

Omega General Help / Spanner light on..
« on: 24 September 2016, 14:48:03 »
Not used my car.2.2. desmond for 3 weeks ..started her up and it missed fired reved up and it was ok..next day same thing happened..so I suspected the cam shaft sensor...changed that for a genuine vauxhall one and sure enough now starts and runs as it should....But now the spanner light has come on..cant take it on the road as not tax/insurance as cancelled that to put on new car...run her around the car park and all appears ok...at a stand still it revs up to 5000 so no bother there...a friend connected a blue point maxiscan unit to it and although it connected to the system ok it said ..no faults found...all systems are ok but still the spanner light shines on...Being an automatic i tried the pedal trick test as someone on here said it will work on a 2002 auto as long as the thing is in drive...but sadly to no avail....any suggestions please as to why no codes stored...or what it could be that is not showing up and how to get rid of the damm light...apart from setting lite to it  lol...thanks.. :-\ :y

General Discussion Area / omega insurance suggestions...
« on: 08 September 2016, 20:15:52 »
having just obtained a 2016 new car i was going to sell my desmond,,I have spent a lot of time and money on improving and getting the car up to scratch and I do love omegas but no garage and not wanting to work on cars anymore decided to buy a new car...So just thinking about hanging on to it but of course all of my no claims insurance discount has gone onto my new car,,which means that I am being quoted silly high prices on the omega ...even putting it on a dual car insurance the price far outweighs the cars worth...I would only do around 1000 to 1500 miles a year just to keep the old gal in my possession and to use now and then to keep her from going down hill by not being used at all..So any bright ideas as to where to look at insurance companies that would specialise in low mile usage and without n.c.b.discount available,,and without sky high premiums..any help would be appreciated,,thanks..

General Discussion Area / car insurance charges
« on: 03 September 2016, 11:48:12 »
Decided had enough ,too old,,in the winter too cold to be clambering over and under my omega....after owning 11 different models of omegas I have obtained myself a brand new motor,,the first one ever..so quite nice, Anyway phoned up the insurance, the one with the bulldog..explained to them that i wanted to cancell my omega insurance that i took out in June 2015,,,,been with this crew for years and they had the cheek to charge me £52 32.cancellation charges,,glad I paid yearly in one lump as that way I get some back,if it had been paid monthly I would have ended up owing them money,,dont expect them to do it for nothing, maybe £20/25 but double that is a sheere rip off, >:( >:(

General Car Chat / rear coil springs
« on: 12 July 2016, 16:43:38 »
Want to replace the rear springs and shocks on my desmond....looking through the maze of offers that are about i am settling for Sachs or Lesjofors....cheapest quote i can find for Sachs is £32.42 each from  G.S.F  and £39.99 from E.C.P....and for Lesjofors  at £16.81 each  from Premier Factors.......that is so cheap is it too good to be true...so although they say the make they are in the advert i have emailed Lesjofors supplier asking if they are genuine and if they will fit my car...but after 2 days ..no reply...my question is,,how can i tell if they are genuine units,,are there makers  brand name or marks on them to identify them as genuine..or can anyone recommend a trusted supplier.thanks  :y

Omega General Help / front shocks
« on: 24 May 2016, 21:42:42 »
I have assembled two front struts for my desmond..but after looking at them again i think i have dropped a clanger....what i would like to know is,,,,,is there a particular way that the top steel plate where  the top rubber seat  is to take the top of the spring should be fitted...because when you look at the top steel plate it is deeper one side than the opposite side where the spring fits...so the rubber seat is also deeper one side and thinner the other...so does the deep side of the rubber seat fit to the deep side of the steel top plate....if so i have fitted one where the deep part of the rubber is fitted to the shallow side of the steel top plate and the rubber sticks up over the inner edge...not sure if i have explained that very good realy.......but is it possible to fit the top steel plate incorrectly to the strut..thanks.... :-\ :-\

Omega General Help / Front shock absorbers
« on: 27 April 2016, 16:54:03 »
Opinions please....In the process of changing the front shocks on my omega..desmond.....I have new gas struts..new coil springs,,dust covers..top mounts and top bearings.....however on inspection I have noticed that the new coil springs ( monroe ) do not appear to be quite as big diameter as the original vauxhall springs....I have weighed them and the old ones weigh approx 2lb more than the new ones...I have checked and the new ones are correct for the car and look the same in every other way....so seeing as the old ones are 15 years old but appear to be ok,should I fit the new ones or just re-use the old genuine v.x.ones.....may be a stupid question but just need advice and opinions please...thanks.. :-\
