Omega General Help / Cambelt kit query
« on: 02 August 2021, 18:23:30 »
Gooood evening men. I hope u r all well:-)

So manifold gasket last week. Cambelt n WP this week 🤦‍♂️

Anyways got my kit from Bedfraud Battery and was very pleased that they have supplied me with a Gates kit. I’m on a bit of a time deadline with the car and can’t really afford to have it off the road due to kit being wrong for example. So. Can someone confirm the belt length I have is correct…

It says on the belt…

5453XS - 225 x 30mm

It certainly all looks good and unlike conti kits it looks like I’ve got the correct tensioner backing plate too. But if someone can confirm the belt length that’d be sweeeeet 😃😎😎😎

Ps it’s a 2.5 v6 👍👍👍

Omega General Help / N/S exhaust manifold gasket (2.5 V6)
« on: 19 July 2021, 21:58:10 »
Hi gays, I mean guys. hope ur all well and staying safe 😎😃

I have tonight finished removing the n/s exhaust manifold to replace the nackered gasket and finally get rid of the exhaust noise I’ve had for ages now.

Firstly what a knob of a job this was. I’m very much not looking forward to putting it all back together 🤮🤮🤮🤣🤣🤣

Anyway rang Vauxhall earlier and the gasket is no longer available, though I was able to order 2 x manifold to down pipe nuts lol

So can anyone help me out and sell me a gasket or can you give me a link to a good online equivalent? I understand the layered steel ones are the way to go. I’d previously fitted a graphite one which didn’t last. But hey ho we live n learn. Cheers oof brothers

Omega General Help / Is this ATF ok...
« on: 31 May 2021, 19:37:04 »
Hi guys. Checked my oil level in my omega (has the ar25 box) and it’s low. So I thought I’ll do a change. I usually use the carlube dex3 but can’t get hold of that in time. I can however get this...

https://www.halfords.com/motoring/engine-oils-and-fluids/gearbox-oil/comma-atf-and-power-steering-fluid-5l-262423.html?istCompanyId=b8708c57-7a02-4cf6-b2c0-dc36b54a327e&istFeedId=367c5610-f937-4c81-8609-f84582324cd6&istItemId=xxxpqq&istBid=t&_$ja=tsid:94971%7Ccid:865695751%7Cagid:43902126655%7Ctid:aud-1122146652209:pla-327721643933%7Ccrid:202397318376%7Cnw:g%7Crnd:10614961453609681672%7Cdvc:m%7Cadp:%7Cmt:%7Cloc:1006959&gclid=Cj0KCQjwktKFBhCkARIsAJeDT0hBNql-kcci1Ng5CJ6uL8KZ4C_Dtl2RcZ_GOfovnXprdmpT2t8nGzUaApbCEALw_wcB

Would this be good to use. It says suitable for dex2 and dex3 and is fully synthetic. Your thoughts...

Cheers boys 😘😘😘

General Car Chat / MG TF exhaust back box...
« on: 29 September 2020, 20:36:37 »
Hi guys. I’ve never worked on one of these sheds before except for maybe a service. 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️
Got to replace rear back box on one tomorrow. I’ve had it in the air last week (but part wasn’t immediately available so he’s dropping off tomoz) and nuts securing back box to catalytic converter are not even nuts / studs anymore so they’ll be getting cut off. However I’m curious to know if rear bumpers gotta come off. Looks tight to me. It’s no issue either way but as say just curious to know if it will slide in or bumper off. 😃😃😃😃

So firstly thanks to his royal D.G.ness for all help with the instrument cluster issue. No issues so far touch wood after cleaning the corrosion off and refitting. As I say “touch wood”.

So how does my omega repay me for doing that, servicing it and polishing it..... that’s right I find some water intrusion at the bottom corner of the NSF windscreen. It’s in the corner (approx 100mm by 100mm corner and seems to have turned white. I went to the bp car wash and only noticed it after that. What are my chances that it was just the high pressure water, it’ll dribble out by tomorrow morning and I can put a nice smear of silicone poo at that corner? Or what are the chances I’ll have to get the screen resealed?

Anyone any experience with this I’d be much appreciative.

Omega General Help / TC light comes on sometimes...
« on: 09 September 2020, 19:10:27 »
Hi guys. Hope ur all well.

As above the TC light comes on. If I turn car off and start again it goes out. Anyway read the codes tonight. Got C0241. Engine torque reduction incorrect signal. Any ideas? A quick Google-nostic seems to suggest that an engine fault is causing this so I read engine faults and got code 31 rpm signal. Having owned my omega for many moons now I instantly know this is crank sensor 🤦‍♂️

So. Is it likely new crank sensor will fix this?

Ps no other lights in, just TC.

Pps fitted a stat few months back and gauge went in to red yesterday. It stayed in the red for a few seconds and then came down and stayed down. I will confess it was A N Other aftermarket stat due to time constraints at the time but don’t want this to happen again so looks like I’ll be changing that again. Will put a gm unit in this time 👍

Omega General Help / Cooling fan question
« on: 17 August 2020, 18:51:42 »
Evening fellas. I hope you’re all well 😃😃😃

Is it normal for the cooling fans to run a lot on the omega? It’s just something I’ve noticed that in town driving it’s on a lot. Absolutely no overheating issues or anything like that and I appreciate it’s warm. But every time I get home I notice it’s on. Any thoughts? 😃👍👍👍

Omega General Help / Furlough omega work volume 204
« on: 09 June 2020, 19:27:07 »
As per a few of my recent posts the omega has been getting a lot of attention. Finished vinyling the door cards today. Very pleased with the results. Much nicer than the scratches that were on there. Fixed some mechanical niggles too. And fixed one of my HIDs that suddenly stopped working.

Anyway tomorrow is major valet day. The old magic eraser is coming out 🤣 One thing I’d love to sort is the handbrake gaiter, the gearstick gaiter (automatic) and my sport button has lost the “S” marking.

Handbrake gaiters are not sold by Vauxhall’s anymore. Anyone know of a good generic one?

The gearstick gaiter... no idea what to do. It’s not as bad as the handbrake leather but would be lovely to get a new one.

And the sport button. Can I pop this off with a pick and replace?

Omega General Help / Steering wheel
« on: 23 May 2020, 16:20:59 »
Hi guys. Still managing to pile through the list of jobs on eeyore during this period.

My steering wheel when u give it a shake back and forth at 12 and 6 (like u would with a road wheel) it’s got a bit of clunking as if the steering wheel is slightly loose. I think it’s transmitting this through the wheel when making turns. It’s not bad just something I’d love to get rid of.

Any ideas as to why it would do that? I doubt it’s going to be the bolt loose that holds wheel on? But if it comes to it I will whip the airbag off and check. Tia 😃😃😃👍👍👍

Omega General Help / Alloy wheel painting
« on: 26 April 2020, 21:30:09 »
Evening guys. So I’m on furlough for three weeks as I’m sure many are and I’m going to do a load of work on eeyore (my omega)

One thing is that my wheels are in fairly good condition for their age but I’d love them to be awesome. Can u get excellent results with rattle cans?

Omega General Help / Lower steering column trim
« on: 15 April 2020, 22:16:03 »
Evening guys, hope you’re all staying safe 👍

I have a slight clunk on my steering as I turn a few degrees either side of straight ahead. There’s no play in any of the under car linkages, idler arm etc. They are also all new 😃

I want to get a butchers at the steering shaft before it disappears underneath to go in to the steering box to see if it’s a UJ, rubber damper or something that’s causing this.

My question is... to take off the trim just above the pedals do I need to remove fuse/obd port cover or is there just a couple of screws I need to take out? Any info greatly welcomed 😘😘😘

Omega General Help / Overheat part deux
« on: 13 February 2020, 18:26:32 »
Hi gays u mean guys 😃

So I swapped out two thermoswitches and took the leaking pas pump as a target of opportunity. It’s not overheated once however I was on way home from work yesterday. Temp seem to come up really quickly. It settled at 90. Then as I was in traffic went to 100 and came back down again. Just wondering if this is a sign that it’s not fixed. Thoughts please 👍👍👍😘😘😘
