Scrap merchants
« on: 15 March 2013, 11:40:25 »

Hi

as i shall soon be needing to scrap the remains of my omega, and never having done this before, does anyone know of the best place to take the car to near an IG6 postcode?

also, would i take the cats to the same place?

finally, if i sell the interior (mfl cream leather elite estate) and some wheels (either mfl 16 inch elite or fl 16 inch CDX) what would i expect to get for them?
i need to try and recoup some of the cost of the car asap, as ive just bought another one (the second in a month) and cant afford to write the whole car off.

If i sell the wheels will a scrappy come and collect the car?

thanks in advance

oh, and whats the best way to siphon the petrol out of the car..............id put half a tank in the day before the car went up in flames. (or is google my friend here)

You'll get more scrap for your alloy wheels than you will trying to sell them. I got almost £40 for a set of early elite 16" alloys, you can see from the forum - nobody wants them.
If you're scrapping the car, I'd stab the fuel tank - it's only plastic - with a screw driver to recover the fuel.  :y

Your car is supposed to be recycled now, not scrapped. On the new red V5, there is no 'scrapped' part to fill in. You can find a list of authorised dismantlers on dvla website.

Predants also need to be recycled not scraped, they get melted down to make new ones, Pawn Brookers or a good Jeweller is the best place to cash them in, no V5 required but you will need some form of Photo ID.  :P

thanks, as ive not much time to faff around doing all this those are both good ideas.

is the tank easy to get at to stab?
is it worth filtering the fuel once drained incase of sediment from the old tank?

Are you able to tow the car to the "recycling" yard? If so, take the wheels off there, remove tyres and then weigh them in. nothing to stop you doing that.
