Mot/Vosa/dvla database contents
« on: 23 December 2014, 17:59:04 »

Took the omega for its test today (passed without issue) but one daft thing quickly became obvious.

Tester asked about the car and I confirmed 3.2 elite estate. He says computer says 2.2. Looking into the system further shows my reg as a 2.2 diesel elite and not a petrol 3.2. He was able to change fuel to petrol as well as engine size but nothing else.

Same garage and tester I've used for years so nothing he has input so down to database management.  My V5 shows correct info so main database is sound.

In this day and age you would think that the various agencies would use a cojoined  approach with regards to information?     ::)

Hmmm, without stating too much, I think everyone knows that's not how the government departments work...

Aye, know that well enough TB but it irked me that such a simple thing can get frucked up. That being so, how much more bad info from something so simple is floating around?

Happens in private sector as well, though to a lesser extent. We have a single truth hardware/software asset database that everything links into. Its estimated to be about 50% accurate after 13yrs of using :o

Shame I'm constrained from saying what I know about public sector IT though, its unbelievably wasteful  >:(

Yup. It's a private plate as you know so kinda obvious if it differed.

There was a time when I put the number from my Omega's V5C into VOSA's website to see if it was MOTd and it said it couldn't find the car. However the number from the current MOT certificate worked  ???

It could cause problems for Joe Public when they're stopped by Plod for whatever reason.

My 3.2 elite estate comes up as dual fuel. If only.   :(

Did you get it MOT,d early, if you get it done a month before it runs out, it then shows 13 months, (thats if you gave
tester your old ticket of course). ???

Of course it was MOTd early!  ;)

And you don't need to take the old MOT 'ticket' with you any more, the computer already knows.  :y :y

Thats odd coz I also have a 3.2 Elite Estate that comes up Dual Fuel when its not, best one is my Ex iPlod 3.2 Manual, comes up on the MID as a Vectra Special with zero Doors, always gets the Insurance Co's going.
