3.0 MV6 manual gearbox
« on: 19 October 2016, 13:28:52 »

I have a 1998 3.0L MV6 manual Omega which I believe is the R28 gearbox. it has become very noisy so I have been trying to find a replacement with no luck. Is the 2.5L V6 the same ie rations etc or do I need one from a 3.0L?

Thanks

Fairly sure the the 2.5 Manual had a 3.9 Diff where the 3.0 Manual had a 3.7 Diff, so guessing the Gearbox ratios would have been different to suit,  :-\

I've heard that the R28 was just an R25 with shot peened internals, so they can probably be swapped OK.

Unusual for one of those boxes to go wrong as they are extremely strong  :-\ are you sure it's not just the concentric bearing or the dual mass flywheel??

The clutch was changed about 3 years ago and the thrust bearing was noisy at first but that stopped. This has developed over the last year, it sounds like tappets but comes from the gearbox, engine is quiet out of gear but makes the noise under load and stops out of gear or if you drop the revs slightly. What sort of noise would the dual mass flywheel make? and what would cause it?
