10 - 40 oil
« on: 19 August 2017, 15:28:28 »

went to dealers yesterday to pick up some engine oil. they only had 5ltrs of 10-40 & I asked when they would have more & was told they don't get it now as vehicles after 04 are mainly synthetic which would be no good for my engine. the price was good though, £12.89p.

You do know that 10w40 semi-synthetic is a common oil available anywhere for a similar price? And that it's not ambrosia stolen from the gods by GM elves?

your engine doesn't care about the label on the container. Or how much you paid for it 3 years ago 'to get a deal'

Indeed, at £7.50 for 5l, for a very good quality oil that's known to work well in our Omegas (and K series Rovers, and even old skool ZX-10's ::)), that's significantly cheaper than what any of the factors can supply their unknowns at :y

Sadly, I understand GM are in the process of changing their oil supplier, I just pray it ain't Castrol.

Although there is obviously 10w/40 s/synthetic available in other makes of oil, the API classification is not always the same, and is worthy of a check on the label before buying just to establish that it is the same rating as the GM stuff.

Say this 20L drum and I am tempted ?

Good Price ?

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/20LTR-DRUM-10W40-ENGINE-OIL-GENUINE-VAUXHALL-SEMI-SYNTHETIC-PETROL-DIESEL/390686523527?_trkparms=aid%3D222007%26algo%3DSIM.MBE%26ao%3D2%26asc%3D45564%26meid%3Dba742561aad049a5b1cc769c2b9d71b8%26pid%3D100005%26rk%3D5%26rkt%3D6%26mehot%3Dpp%26sd%3D263155629627&_trksid=p2047675.c100005.m1851

Will check my local VX Stealer Monday on 5ltr, but seems tempting above which I assume is the same stuff / grade ?

Always worries me a great deal when a "professional" company tries to sell on ebay and uses lines like ....

""WE SUPPLY VARIOUSE NUMBER  OF GARAGES ACCROSS THE UK AND EUROPE""

and numerous other spelling or grammatical errors throughout the "ad" ......

I wonder exactly "what" you would get if you purchased ...  :(

Fair enough.  Will see what I can get from the Dealer as I want to give mine an oil change again soon (been 12 months - 1000 miles :D) unless others have any alternatives to source the good GM oil an decent price ?
