Ford have launched a scrappage scheme, meaning you can get two grand off a new car in exchange for your ancient rust bucket.  :y

£2000 off MRRP is effectively SFA.

I know. If you can't get four grand off a new astra you're doing something wrong.

Vauxhall have had such a scheme running for a while now and BMW and Mercedes either had the same or still do.

You mean £2000 that they never put on in the first place to make it look a sweeter deal

Must be nice to be able to consider buying a new car just because they offer to take a paltry 2k off the MRP. Considering i only usually pay 1200-1500 quid for all my cars that,s still way over my budget ;D Just a ploy to sell some new cars to arrest their plummeting sales figures. The only people who bought new cars with the scheme a few years ago were ones who could afford to buy new anyway. Also, a lot of very good cars went to the crushers as well. >:(

That was one of the biggest issues with the old scrappage scheme - all cars that were traded in under the scheme HAD to be scrapped, even if they were perfectly serviceable. As a result a lot of good cars and occasionally potential classics were lost.
I presume it is still the same - cars traded in under the scheme have to be scrapped or used for parts only?

Not at all... This round of subsidies are not government funded incentives but rather marketing ploys to shift new cars ;)

Your part ex will find itself at auction or local independent dealers...

I think he was being genuine, he categorically stated on the BBC that these cars would be 'scrapped'. I doubt very much a company like Ford would risk a media backlash. We will see.

£2,000 would be nowhere what my Omega is worth to me. A big engined, fully loaded beast cannot be compared to a Ford Fiesta or any other Ford, apart from a 5.0 Mustang! Doubt they would let me have a new one of those for £2,000! ;D ;D

The £2,000 will be built into the wholesale price. They will get a better return on the part exes from auction than scrap...

BBC: "Ford said all of the part-exchanged vehicles will be scrapped, having an immediate effect on air quality".

It's already had an effect on air quality; the distinctive stink of pious bullshit is in the air.

I don't know, it'll probably have a (negative) effect on air quality when it's smelted down to make bean cans.. ;) (I know, such things use burners to 'burn off' the crap in an environmentally friendly manner, these days - in this country, anyway, but I bet it all gets shipped off to India or China for recycling, where they don't GAS about the environment, so the recycling is cheaper!)

Another Pile of rust awaiting on the docks north of liverpool then.

Most piles get to be higher than Paddy's wigwam and can be seen from outerspace or even from New Brighton.
