What is the general opinion of changing front coil springs in pairs or single ? Reason being is it took me 3 weeks to change one broken spring and a wishbone  :D ;D Looking at the web seems the opinion is split  :-\ Cav mk3

Always in pairs, unless you fancy some interesting handling characteristics...

You really did know the answer to that, didn't you, EMD?!
Even with my limited knowledge, I see it this way; if a spring on one side has aged sufficiently to be weak enough to break and the other side is of similar age......

I had a front spring go on the mighty Signum.

The other side looked fine so I thought it cost effective on an old car to simply replace the broken unit.

No problems to date. :y

'Tis true', Mr Ron.

However, being an optimist I prefer to take the "don't worry it may never happen route" :)

.......and when we are talking old cars with little value cost is a consideration.

Understood, Dr. Opti, but cost isn't the only consideration. With differing spring rates either side, you could soon get to know the meaning of the phrase "ditch-finder"!  :-[
