Not been on here much over the last couple of weeks had   trouble with my eyes , anyway saw my GP last Friday who was quite concerned & has arranged a brain scan (just hope they find one)😀 Also recommended an eye test which I had today.Good news nothing wrong at the front bad news is that the double vision I am experiencing is either brain related or a problem behind the eye, advice is not to drive & more specialist referrals, so guys never take anything for granted , if there are any spelling mistakes I apologize because I am having to wear an eye patch.

As a diabetic I am very aware of the need not to damage my eyes, so go for regular check ups.  I also had double vision for a few days and couldn't drive three years ago, but after panicking it turned out to be hay fever affecting my vision temporarily.  Very scary, so I have some idea of what you are going through Tilbo.  Once again, hope it all clears up soon

A neighbour had a similar problem to you and hopefully it is the same as what they had was a benign growth behind their eye? Their eye was popped out, the growth removed and the eye popped back in all under local anesthetic with no major pain afterwards, which also totally cured the problem.

I wish you all the best on this being sorted as being permanently partially sighted like me causes many day-to-day issues, but you can only keep chin-up and fight hard for the best quality of life circumstances allows. What you learn is that disability makes your personal productivity much worse compared to totally being a fit people.

Viewing long distance I don't use an eye patch, but I do when reading, to stop my eyes and my brain's processing not fighting against each other and my bad eye squinting to try and cope with its limited vision. If you find you can't work out the image you eyes are giving, this is very unnerving but does get a bit better in time as you get used to it. The other big problems I've found is that it reduces the light your eyes receive which makes low-level vision difficult to impossible, so I have torches around the house and also magnifying glasses to help in reading any small text especially on any packaging.

  Hope it does turn out to be nothing serious mate. I do have a good friend who has lost total sight in his left eye and has extremely limited vision in the right. Also he has now had lower limb amputation on both legs to go along with the dialysis he has to have three times a week. We cant even begin to imagine how he copes but he is always cheery and gets on with it

Thanks everyone for your support, had a scare in 2000 when a tumour was suspected had various tests & got the all clear so kind of been through this before, now not really worried lots of folk worse off health-wise than me  no pain just blurry vision & a watery eye, make the most of my time off enjoy walking so wearing the dog out each morning for a couple of hours, just miss driving to the other walks I used to take him to.

I love walking, but sometimes find that without a purpose, other priorities get in the way. Which is primarily the reason I took up geocaching a few years back.

I'm sorry your walks are due to less than ideal circumstances, but sounds like you are taking a pragmatic approach

Had some encouraging news from a consultant who has become involved apparently some of the medication I  take can react with muscles around the eyes it's uncommon but not unheard of my sight may return to normal in a week or two , fingers crossed.😀

She is having the first drive of the Merc today, it hasn't been out on the road for a couple of weeks, going over to see some friends this afternoon so have decided to let her take the Merc, not good to just leave it in the garage.

Eyes are back to normal , just got back from Stamford Hospital after the MRI scan if that is okay then it was a side effect of the meds, fingers crossed.

Yes, I made my comment after I have had very temporary eye sight trouble, which cured itself as it was down to hay fever apparently.  But as I was getting double vision I took myself off the road.  I did this as I well remember having a row with my old dad, now departed, who insisted in driving when he was a menace to everyone on the road, and himself.  In the end the "family" took action via his GP and the DVLA revoked his licence, thank God!

I was so relieved when my Mums old Metro packed up when she was 89, up until then she just couldn't understand the risk she posed to other road users and pedestrians in particular. She lived in a very remote village and so not driving was a real problem.

Mrs and I moved a few years ago and made a point of buying a house where a car was not essential. I often don't use it for a week or so. We can walk to the shops, train station, and . . . . . THE PUBS !

Glad every thing is O.K Mick,I was going to offer you a theory on your eye problem now that the worries have gone.And I think you'll understand this.....I think it's all those years of sleeping on the night shift with one eye on the lookout for the mobile superintendent creeping up on us unannounced...I got caught a couple of times and had to bribe them with a cuppa or two

Me and my brother took action about getting my 86yo mum to stop driving.....we simply took her car off her and sold it....simples

A few years ago I went out to dinner with a mate and his Dad who at the time was in his early 90's.  His Dad drove us in his newish BMW 3 series and drove it like he stole it! 

That was a bit of a white knuckle ride!
