Why do you even want such a big card in a dashcam? I put a 16 Gb card in mine when I first got it, but quickly replaced it with a 2 Gb as I had better uses for the larger one. You're only ever going to be interested in the last few minutes of video. In the same vein, the only use for the screen on one is so you can stick it in the right place first time.

My understanding is that all flash memory has a finite number of write actions which it can undergo before corrupting/becoming non functional. In your example, 1/8 card size = 8x as many write actions on each sector of the card per day of operation, so it has 1/8 of the lifespan of the larger card.

Ok, that's probably an over-simplification but that's the general gist.

It's been in there 4 years so far, and it was supplied with another device. I'm not worried ;D

True, I've resolved to change mine reasonably regularly as the only time I'll be looking at the video feed is when I *really* need the footage to be there.  :y

That's probably why the instructions recommend a reformat every few weeks depending upon usage. I've certainly had SD cards and flash drives go bad.

I have a 32gb, 10. Speed in mine and reformat, when I remember.

Am having problems with the roadhawk software, it doesn't like loading googly maps, on win 10.

I bought a couple of the £20-£25 quid ones and they worked ok for a while but quickly became useless so have not bothered since.

64Gb Kingston in both of mine, bought from local Sainsbury's when they had them reduced. Fits about an hour and a half on in HD with a few files in R/O directory from pressing the capture button etc

I have a 312GW and a 412GW - one in the rear, one in the front.

The 312 is much better. Audio quality on the 412gw is much worse, and in addition, the touchscreen type buttons are really easy to press by mistake.

You record the audio ? I've got it switched off. Any particular reason why? (other than wanting to record your singing) Just wondering  . . . Any legal or other advantage in having the audio ?

When I got hit in the rear wing, right-side whilst stationary the dashcam footage AND AUDIO, although not seeing the car that hit me clearly showed the "jolt" and the SOUND of the impact, whilst also proving categorically that I was not moving at the time ... the subsequent recording of the other driver swearing at me and accusing me of "reversing into him" was also quite clear .... as the insurers (and police) remarked ..  a tad difficult to damage the wheel arch by reversing into the front of another car !!! but the evidence proved me in the right and the car was repaired with no loss of NCD .. :)

you can read aloud a number plate and it will be kept whereas video might not capture it clearly (or at all) and you won't have time to find a pen and write it down.

.

All our company vehicles have audio turned OFF, due to them being real-time live cameras, don't want office staff listening to us slag them off, and other colourful comments about fellow road users.
