I think I've really....
« on: 01 November 2017, 15:39:24 »

.... oppsed it up this time!  ::)

I thought I'd have a go at changing the rear ball joints on my BMW.  After watching a few videos on youtube I thought it looked pretty straight forward.  :y

Hmmm!  I've taken it apart, replaced the ball joint, but can I get everything to line up to put it all back together?  ::)  No! Bastard!  >:(

I've been pissing about all day and it looks like I'll have a car on stands on the drive for a while....  ::)

They say it helps to share!  ;D

Yes that's the video I saw.  He makes it look easy!  ;D

When he pulls out that long bolt from the integral link and the ball joint everything stays roughly in place.  When I pulled mine out it all shifted way out of position.  :o   ::)

A mate came over and gave me a hand and we managed to lever it into position at the integral link end and that's OK.  I just can't get the hub carrier and the swinging arm to line up at the bush, to get the bolt in...  :(

Might have to employ Sammy Sledge tomorrow.  :-X

Love and compassion will see it effortlessly come together. ;)

Ratchet strap or bottle jack is often useful in this type of situation.

Undoing the driveshaft from the diff or the strut from the hub may be more effective :y

Well I managed to get it back together with a long length of 4x2 braced against the house and a scissor jack to push the hub carrier inwards, a trolley jack underneath for up and down, and judicial use of hammers of various sizes!  :)

3 days to change a ball joint!  :o  ::)  I'll have to see if I can do better when I tackle the other side.  ;D
