Count down to the new(ish) car arrival
« on: 07 November 2017, 09:06:29 »

Quite looking forward to it having had the Zafira for nearly 9 years, back to 'correct' wheel drive to.

Although the Lincolnshire lord will be disappointed that it runs on boat fuel (needs must!)

Perhaps he has chosen a British family classic. A Morris Marina or Austin All-aggro perhaps. ;)

If not how about Italian?

Alfa Romeo make some nice cars these days.

The engine is French? XF maybe, little options for RWD not BMW/Merc. Can't see you going Lexus!

3.0 diesel is way to pricey to run with my annual mileage so its a 4 pot 2.0 163bhp (but still 0-60 in 8,2 seconds so not to shabby).

The 2016 model year is 200kg lighter than the earlier version with longer wheel base (same body length) and different rear suspension system, so the reduced power is not that noticeable.

Same engine size as my astra and about the same bhp. Mine is marginally slower to 60 but, then again, I never though Iíd be comparing it to a jag. ;D

My customer has one of these - in that config, it flies!

We regularly do the Limerick to Cork run, no real dual carriageway to speak of - so Iím also impressed with the brakes, get used more than they would if I were driving - to be sure  ::)

Agreed. My car weighs 1880KG according to the book but the engine means it can keep up with the general flow of traffic.

Also, unless the driver is a real shortarse there is very little rear leg room in the older car. Your car will be better in this respect.

Nice choice. :y

A Jaguar XF is a 'nice choice' I was being diplomatic about the engine. :)

Unfortunately, the Xf estate isn't available without the canal boat engine choices :'(

Be a nice upgrade from the Zafira nonetheless  8)

Indeed they are. But I hope yours drives straighter than my black kitty, as coming home tonight, mine spent most of its time going sideways.

In the end, I turned TC back on, back out of sport, and back into auto, as it was getting a bit tedious.

Fuel Computer reading 32mpg over this tank, so suspect I'll achieve 28mpg in reality. The 275bhp variant of the 3.0 v6 diesel does like making its way through Lord Opti's favourite fuel  :-[

It is a 2016 model year XF diesel......

Nice choice  :y

My budget could see 2010/11 XF-S

Did you get one in correct cylinder arrangement  :)

I saw one of these today....I thought....blimey why would jag make a car with a 2.0l diesel (excluding the Mondeo based jag)....and who would buy one  :o ::) ;D
Most popular option ;)

My customer has one of these - in that config, it flies!

We regularly do the Limerick to Cork run, no real dual carriageway to speak of - so Iím also impressed with the brakes, get used more than they would if I were driving - to be sure  ::)

That's very impressive, my Mondeo Mk5 2.0l petrol Ecoboost takes 8.0 secs to 62, with considerably more power at 240PS. :y

/nosey mode.

Given your miles, have you bought this cash or say part cash/normal loan?

Without car share my miles are 15k/yr for work, around 8k with. (Meaning 3.2 is viable)

On finance deals say via BMW for £200/m some nice motors can be had, with say 8k down.

But thatís at 10k miles, soon as you go 12k it gets much more expensive on finance.

Half and half, half cash and half standard bank loan (so mileage is irrelevant).

Not seen a dealer finance deal that's worth considering, they are usually long term (5 years) and 9+% APR

Unfortunately, the Xf estate isn't available without the canal boat engine choices :'(

Be a nice upgrade from the Zafira nonetheless  8)

2.0 247bhp Petrol is available in the 2016+ model year  :y

I have to say that the Zafira was a fantastic work horse and actually quite sprightly, with handling which was far from shabby.

Sainsburyís Bank were doing 2.8% when I was looking around a few weeks ago, and quite a few places @ 3%. Not sure if these are still available now the rates are edging up.

Car finance deals are (mostly) a weapon of last resort, particularly used. Its no accident of course, by going for a stupid APR, they can tell punters that for only £x more a month they could buy brand new instead. Well, as long as your definition of "buy" involves giving them money for a product you'll never own  ;D

SWMBO's yeti is on pcp but only because it was 0%APR and we plan to buy it after the term is up.

Dealer HP has its place/uses... PCPs are good for company purchases or if they're interest free for private buyers ;)

If you can afford to over pay, then you may as well save up and buy outright unless circumstances demand it, as in this case...ie primary transport written off.

Hopefully it will serve you as well as the Zafira :y

Nice  :)

Double conundrum here. Rates are looking to go up, plus if the Fox deal finally goes through early next year, it would be the prime time to get something newer and replace the 3.2. Both in terms of loan and personal situation.

But, I car share meaning a months worth of commuting costs  2x tanks of fuel which is not bad (averaging 24mpg) - But I guess car share could end again, although I suspect he is back for a couple of years at least.

However.....

We want a bigger house in the near future, so bigger commute is highly possible? Possible no car share then, so more miles to work, meaning a newer more economical car would be great to already have and not fund as well as a bigger house.

 :-\ :-\ :-\

Option B is LPG the 3.2  ::)  :D - Which now is a serious option, as I have the Zafira for family needs.

Having had good results on the Omega with PS4, I am tempted to go for them.  But then the recommended tyre is SportMaxx GT (JO), I feel I should try it how it is supposed to be, as a baseline.

Up until the last lot of SportMaxx RTs I had, the Dunlop 9000/SportMaxx range has served me well :y

Quite looking forward to it having had the Zafira for nearly 9 years, back to 'correct' wheel drive to.

Although the Lincolnshire lord will be disappointed that it runs on boat fuel (needs must!)
Now you have it, we need pics :).  And a full road test review ;D

Pics....hmmm, that means I have to think about a new photo host.

Only completed a mere 640 miles so far.....not quite one tank of fuel with one of the commute trips showing an indicated 71mpg  :o (the calculated from fill shows its closer to 68mpg) but, its averaging 58 (as you cant drive economically all the time).

Very comfortable and incredibly well planted on the road, the X260 is a better drive than the X250 certainly (although some of the dash does feel cheaper), very sure on its feet, predictable and still achieves Webby type 0-60 times when pushed. The much improved rear leg and head room over the previous version is very noticebale.

Autobox is pretty good (as good as a slush pump can be), certainly does most of what I need.

Didn't know that.

Same colour as my old 2013 XFR, and the best coiour there is for an XF in my view.

You're right. It will be 'a bit of a bastard' to keep clean, but for the ten minutes before it rains again it will look wonderful. :y :y :y

I did manage to get the salesman to take my lad out for an extended test drive in a V6 Supercharged F-Type, they were painting 11's on the A52 apparently.

The grin he had on his return was quite something!  :y
