I watched a programme recently on public sector pay in which they focused on a police officer , fireman and nurse.
I was truly humbled when the police officer announced that she earned £22 K per annum and was currently living in a hostel with her 16 yo son . She was determined to stay in the force even though she would probably be better off leaving and entering the benefits world . I had a lot of sympathy for her and the other two who were in a similar trapped situation.
When I see this report it makes me very , very angry at how they manipulate and use their power of disruption over the mass public.

I (mostly) agree, but we need a radical rethink on how to fund it all. We've run out of rich people, and as a nation, we've told all the big multinationals to FO somewhere else.

Tough decisions need to be made, and virtually most public services closed down. But the (thick) British Public are not ready for that yet.

Most of the big multinationals have been somewhere else for years, like Luxembourg or Ireland.  They maintain operating bases in the UK the costs of which are offset against their UK tax bill, which is minimal as they report the bulk of their profits elsewhere in lower tax regimes.  ::)

Facebook paid the UK treasury £2.58 million (after deductions) in 2016.  All perfectly legal of course.  ;)

There are a lot of UK multinationals that do pay reasonable levels of tax. And won't soon.
