Oil Pressure Switch

Reading several recent posts re leaks around or by the oil pressure switch think this might be the reason why I also have traces of fresh oil on the top face of the sump directly below the alternator .

As oil doesn't seem to track much beyond the front edge of that area I am suspicious that the oil pressure switch may be my issues.

What is involved in removing and replacing it and is the switch the same across the range .

Number of sources of oil on the sump lip, however, the pressure switch is a case of unplugging the cable and unscrewing it using an open ended spanner.

Further sources of oil on the sump lip could be crank seal and camshaft seals (usually the exhaust ones). There's lots of other sources of course!

Appreciate other areas of concern ,however when I did the cam cover gaskets back in the summer both camshaft ends were clean and oil free...that's not too say they haven't let go since.

Will be going the easiest and cheapest route first then progress from there if not resolved.

Assume the compression washer on the end of the plug is the bit that gives up ..or is it a rubber/fibre washer.

Are all oil switches same across V6 range ?

Pretty much a standard part across the range IIRC, certainly a DTI one was the same as a V6 one.

Is access possible from above or does bottom engine cover etc need removing as would sooner not be getting stands and trolley jack out this time of year  ;D

It's often the switch itself that fails, which then injects oil into the wiring loom as well as making a mess. This particularly common on the 1.2 Corsa, where you can actually watch oil spurt out the end. The part is shared with lots of European engines, and any decent factors will have them in stock. Mine was less than a fiver. I fitted it in the dark before I left work. A 23 or 24mm spanner is all that's needed.

switch on lower left next/under the alternator.

To answer your question Amba, you can remove the bottom cover for easy access from below but it's not necessary to do it that way.
Access from above is easy enough, but if you want bags of room you can remove the bagpipes without having to grovel underneath. Most people would think that is too much trouble though.

Takes longer to remove either of those than it does to do the job. It is easier without the SAI gubbins, but Andrew's 3.2 doesn't have that, and I removed mine when I fitted the later manifolds.

I will remove it from above as have had a look this morning and I can easily reach down to get access.

Not keen on removing more than is necessary and didn't want to have to empty the shed just to pull the trolley jack and stands out >:(...unless really necessary
