The poster of that ad seems to think that receipts for £3k should add £2k to a £500 car. In reality, the best of the new stuff is now worth a few pence per pound paid. The rest is worthless.

I think that is a 'stock' photo on the listing or one off the internet. I don't think it is of the actual car for sale. Anyone genuinely interested would be best asking for additional photos of the car in its current state.

I think Tunnie has shown us the increasingly likely fate of virtually all Omegas. Any car that is not hot dipped galvanised will have a typical life of 13 years due to tin worm. £3k of spaces will not include a new body shell as one of them.

There is a reason why you still see rust free 740/760, 940/960 Volvos on the road as they were hot dipped galvanised. Volvo did this to ensure structural integrity and accident safety for longer.

Indeed. I popped round to see a friend over the Christmas period and remarked on the condition of his F reg Volvo 7 Series estate. (4 pot - not the V6, so the engine had survived too!)

Aren't Audis supposed to be galvanised?  As I know of many 15yr old ones that have rusty bodywork....   ....those that haven't been scrapped due to rust induced MOT failures underneath.

I think part of the issue is people just do not think (or be arsed) to do a little body/chassis maintenance (such as wax and polish, and re-underseal), and dealers certainly won't.  Maybe with the TV ads for a few years ago for Audi, Audi owners thought it would never rust. That was always going to turn out like a Series Landrover owner saying his car wasn't going to rust
