Door mirror maintenance

I need to replace one of the door mirrors on my facelift estate. I've managed to find one on ebay. Should I dismantle it and clean and grease? Or leave well enough alone?

Seriously though, I replaced my mirror glass in situ a few years back - simply pulled the glass off, unpluged the leads, connected the new one and popped the glass back. No problem since, so why interfere?

Must admit that when Mine went faulty it was because the metal had corroded so badly that I decided it would not happen again so I took new (2nd hand one) apart and cleaned it well and then coated it with copper grease for peace of mind..so it is a personal choice realy. :y

popping the glass out and giving the mechanisms a light squirt of some sort dry lubricant won't hurt anything, but but you can easily find more worthwhile things to do.

It was more a nod to some preventative maintenance given that the wagon is nearly 15 old and the replacement mirror maybe even older. Not to mention that the mirror was hard to come by, in the correct colour. I have a can of white grease and plenty of copper grease.
