First wash of 2018.
« on: 14 January 2018, 13:15:41 »

I know that plenty of you lazy bastards are happy to pay a bunch of 'illegals'  £5 to run a gritty sponge over your car. I'm not. :D

So in true Dunkirk spirit I braved the cold and did it myself. ;)

I enjoyed a well deserved bottle of San Miguel for my trouble. :)

It's not rocket science.

Pressure wash the whole car to get rid of any 'welded on' crud. I then mix some Meguiar's car wash with water in a bucket.

Pressure wash the car again and then dry with an assortment of soft scratch free cloths.

No waxing.........no polishing.......and as for bars of clay forget it.

Done and dusted in less time than it takes STMO to walk the whippet and then watch fascinated while it takes a 'runny dump' :y

Wrong! It’s me that takes a runny dump.

After our respective cars have been washed, no one could tell the difference between your glorified rinse and my proper wash and dry and polish (£5 at all good Eastern European car washes). The reward you will get for doing it yourself is a 50% depreciation in what you paid for it in x years, the same as mine.  :)

You should use two buckets One with the warm soapy water in, another with warm water to rinse the dirty water of your sponge / microfiber cloth, before you dip it back in the first bucket to wash the next panel.  ;)
I'm hoping to give the Omega a wash tomorrow or Tuesday as its the filthiest it has ever been since I bought it.  :(

Only one bucket is needed: empty its contents over the car. Refill, and do it again. Wipe down the soapy/dirty water mix with your rag. Rinse with a couple of buckets worth of clean water applied in the same manner. That takes less than five minutes.

Although being far from sensible I may well forget. :-\

I do polish my car. It gets a couple of coats when I'm on holiday, before I reward myself with a well-earned afternoon beer. Or two. With some cheese :)

The colour of the car is Italian Racing Red.

However, I have noticed the car can appear a slightly different colour dependent on the light. It's a very subtle difference, but it may be noticeable to those of you with keen eyes.

About three and a half decades ago I spent a week in a real shithole of a hotel in Torremolinos. Everyone came down with food poisoning and the smell of raw sewage (because the bogs were all blocked) was overwhelming.

So...it was San Miguel for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. :y

Not a bucket to be seen with my method.

Gentle rinse with the pressure washer, no blasting the dirt into the paint.

Use the snow foam with the lance attachment and leave for 15 minutes.

Gentle rinse again.

Use Meguiars NXT generation car wash with lance attachment and wash with lambs wool mit.

Gentle rinse again and dry with drying towel  :y

I use Bilt Hamber finis wax every other wash  ;)

I’m guessing you’ll trade them as they become dirty if you’ve got 7?
Like most people on here I clean my cars and quite enjoy it, even in the current weather she gets washed polished most weeks with additional clay when required.

Not even one M'lud! Rural poverty is a terrible thing.....  :'(

In other news.  It stopped raining so I hooked up the pressure washer to the water butt and washed the Mundano.  Free water, a bit of leccy and elbow grease, and I've a nice shiny car again.  I think it's starting to get dark a little later as well!  :y

If[big word is that]I had an expensive shiny car then I might just might be tempted to wash it,as it happens I have a £400 Omega and a £50 V70,so [as it's been off the road most of the time]the Omega hasn't been washed in over 2yrs and the V70[the alleged paintwork of which is shot]was done when I first bought it a year and a half ago-unless you count the number of times they've been washed with Gods own shampoo :D ;D
