Up until a few months ago our road was more pothole than road surface, they finally got round to re-surfacing it[albeit leaving plenty of grit/chippings around]potholes are now reappearing in the same places they were before ???

I read somewhere today that 10% of our roads are in a bad state of repair.  >:(

Which means 90% of our roads are in good shape!  :y

We had one round the corner which was over a metre square and about 8 inched deep. Council came along and chucked a couple of shovels of tarmac in which made it about 5 inches deep. They then ignored it for another couple of months until they shovelled some more in and levelled it. Disgraceful.
The A12 around Witham is in a terrible state. Have to keep swerving between the lanes (if traffic flow allows) to avoid the potholes.

I think it should be 90% of the roads are in a bad way complete with speed humps to add insult to injury and the other 10% are ok.

Its not even just potholes, whole roads are wearing away because they dont use high quality tar and relaying procedures, they just rough the surface up and put a light skim of crumble mix over the top. The stones are tiny in it, they wash out and cars goin over them doesn't help, add in rain, frost and all the rest and you end up with the old road surface "resurfacing" after a couple of months.

Also have you noticed how many blocked drains there are. The councils dont clean em anymore, they dont sweep the gutters in autumn either, adding to the blockage problem.

Cheap, quick fixes seem to be the order of the day. Imagine the state of you tarmac driveway if buses and trucks drove over it, and that's the same stuff they are filling holes with.

Yep, and, if the fix is not completely watertight it will pop out again at the fist sign of a frost. ::)

It,s the same thing with many local councils going back to the "cobblestone" look on urban roads. Totally unsuited for todays volumes of traffic and downright stupid if 40 ton delivery artics are allowed access to them. ::)
