I would think that GM source their oil from more than one supplier and the colour could vary between them.

Yep, they're clearly not refining it themselves so I'm sure you get whatever they can get their hands on cheaply that meets their spec.

I still use TC oil, but its in the 20l cans (which I decant into 4 5l cans). £24.99 IIRC, might be ex VAT though.  And being TC, that's delivered to my door.

Guessing that works out around £7ish per 5l.  Suits me :)
Have you found an easy way to decant it from the 20l barrel?

I have been trying to pour from the barrel into a funnel and haven't found how to do it without getting dribbles everywhere......

When I got mine, my local VX dealer offered me a screw on tap, so it's a bit like a beer keg. I simply transfer it to the next tub when empty. It has to be on its side with the neck at its lowest point, but it safely dispenses the correct amount of oil with no mess.
As to the colour of the oil - I have checked the contents of a 5L tub of 10/40 S/S, against the oil in the 20L tub, and my imagination wasn't playing tricks. The TC oil is definately darker.

They tend to stick with a single supplier for a while, then change. They changed suppliers last year, so probably won't again for a few years...

I picked up 4x5L of 10/40 semi from my local dealer for £40.09 on Friday, which I was more than happy with.  :)
