Especially if this is the same garage that replaced the head gaskets for something to do :-X

Yep, I always take mine to the local guy in the village and pony up the £50 odd. It's plain to see that it costs a garage at least £50 to do an MOT* so if they charge less, it's a loss leader.

*- unless it's my Westfield, whereby he has about 25 minutes chatting to me over a cuppa and a fag before logging off the MOT system since it only takes him 15 minutes to test the car!

The place I take mine to charges me £43 but he only does MOT tests

I paid the £28 at my local Vauxhall main dealer to MOT Zafira, passed no issues.

I take the 3.2 Fox in Camberley, the 'Vauxhall Specialist' last time I paid more for the 3.2's MOT.

I have been paying the same £40 to my MOT place for almost as long as I can remember. They only do MOT,s and every year the same guys has a chat about the Omega and says he wished every car he saw was as well maintained,so for the praise alone I,m happy to pay the £40.

Thats a coincidence,Tunnie,as my 3.2 Elite was supplied from new by Fox,s at Camberley according to old documents I have.

They must only do service now? The garage in town is where the Peugeot one was, it's under Eden.

Perhaps there was a Fox branch there? As the service/MOT place only do that, no sales. Wonder if it was always separate.  :-\

I pay 35 to my Local Garage, they wont fail something for the sake of it as they are always banged out with too much work anyway, last time I ended up offering them 20 notes so I could do the work myself on their Ramps for an hour or so when there Mechanic had a day off. then the MOT Guy just looked at it and printed the MOT  ;) :y

The trolley will be £40. Using a different garage to last test which was full price, yet still charge £80 an hour, provided the work isn't difficult... They will gladly charge £500+ to do discs and pads on a Corrola >:(

IIRC, there was a big Fox Vauxhall dealership on the BVR years ago. My Dad nearly bought his Senator there, but they upset him so he went to one on the A322 in Knaphill / Bisley, IIRC. I don't think either of them are there any more.

£39.85 at mine. And £30 to any OOF member who wants one 😁😁😁

I know that when we put online MOTs at under that we got less interest. Probably to do with people thinking that we'd try and do them (not the case but new customers don't know that).

I also know dodgy outfits like Halfords and quickfit fail and charge for headlight aiming etc.

My local indie does the MOT for free with a service. The service consists of changing the oil and filter for £135. Go figure  ;D

If the headlight aim is out of tolerance, it is a fail , even if  just one bulb needs replacing ,it's a fail ,must be entered on the VTS device as a fail, then repaired, then part retest
not that i'm sticking up for Halfrauds or quicksh!t
you can't do repairs ,however minor, during a test

but i suspect your implying that such outfits fail on such items ,even though they are fine ,just to meet sales targets etc bump up the bill
you could be right  ;D
