Gas bbq
« on: 23 August 2018, 15:45:50 »

My old gas bbq was knackered , leaving it out over winter didn't help  ::)

So ive just been and bought one of these.....

https://www.therange.co.uk/leisure/camping/cooking-and-picnicware/bbq-chef-bunbury-easy-fold-gas-grill#615515

Seems ideal, portable, so ok for taking camping etc.  :y

Its running off a 13Kg gas bottle at the moment, which the old bbq was connected to. But when that runs out i'll get a smaller portable gas bottle for it  :)

So if anyone is looking at gas BBQ's , it would be considering one of these  :y

My gas BBQ only went about 4' during that incident. Mostly because some bricks hit it.

The lovely MrsT bought me this few years ago, I do like convenience of gas. Especially with young family, spark up and go! But will admit charcoal tastes better, but loads more mess.

I've a gas BBQ in the bottom workshop ,used it twice in 10 years of owning it.
it just does not taste the same as a real BBQ
I think you need the lead paint and creosote from the scrap wood to give it a proper authentic taste , plus it's harder to burn food properly with gas .
you may as well burn the food under the kitchen grill (which is Mrs Builder's domain)

Yep. No point in an "outdoor gas cooker". Food tastes no different than from the indoor one. ::)

More often though, it’s the outdoor cooking experience.  Being outside, family, friends all outside beers flowing etc. Rather than food itself.

Not sure how that makes it better than charcoal?  You can do the same, but also get the BBQ taste as well, when using charcoal.

Smoke boxes can go some way towards getting gas to have the flavour, but not completely. Plus they are more faff than charcoal in the first place  :-\

Being a former gas BBQ fan, I now can't see any extra hassle in charcoal. Both need lighting 30mins before, one is more fun and gives better flavour, the other tastes like its come out of the grill

That sounds to be about the best thing that could happen to Burger King and all the other "fast food" outlets :y

Your doing it wrong,  surely, I can spark mine up and inside 120 seconds it's ready to rock.  :y

Minimal mess, cooking on trays in BBQ, they go straight in the bin. Afterwards, just turn it off and done. Zero cleaning to do. More time to drink beer or cider  :)

Indeed. Maybe TB also lights his hob 30 minutes before he wants to .. wait a second, he has no idea what to do in a kitchen (pink jobs, remember), so what makes us think he's qualified to run a BBQ?

Best leave that to your better half in future, TB  :P ;D

Yours ain't a BBQ then, its a gas grill. Probably American, or at least a copy of an American design.

Gas BBQs have lava rock, and the gas heats these, then the heat from these cooks the food.  If yours has lava rock, but still reading to cook in 2 minutes, then you don't have enough, and you effectively have a gas grill.

It also needs about 30mins heat up time to burn off the remains of the last use.

Yep, men should only cook if it involves either a BBQ, or being highly paid in the kitchen of a commercial establishment.  :y

Its not a BBQ, its just a grill.  Can't even use smoke boxes on them, so may as well save the time, money and hassle and use the cooker ;)

Is this another euphemism for what you do on the potty or do you really mean tidying up the place?
Maybe both applied to that incident?  :o
