I'm amazed they were made until 1962.

They look like a car from the thirties.

I was brought home from the hospital in a carrycot on the backseat of mum's Herald.
Later when me and my sister were 4 and 3, all four of us and an alsatian went all over the place in an Austin 1100. That wasn't unusual!

My son came home in a carrycot on the "shelf" behind the seats of an MGB soft-top, sharing said space with a Cocker Spaniel ... Top was up however as it was December ....  :)

and wind the clock on to 1988, the nurse at the hospital was a bit put out when we wanted to place our new born lad in a rear facing seat on the front seat (no air bags & no rear seat belts at the time) when she wanted to place him on SWMBO's lap

They were basically the same shape as the 39-4? Anglia. :y

My first born child was brought home from hospital in a 100E which was of course the follow on from the "sit up and beg" Pop.

My stepfather, who owned a large motor dealers, including heavy transport, drove a 100E Anglia, with overdrive on top gear (3rd?) for at least 10 years. He ran this after my mother took the side off his  - 1st in the UK - Austin Atlantic (A90) convertible, which was a beautiful car, cream with red leather. Everything electrically operated, most of which failed within 6 months! It had the first push button radio I had seen. :D

Don't let the millennial parents see this thread, there will be outrage that we weren't wrapped in bubble wrap, tightly strapped into a daft child seat.
