Laguna II Vs the old Mig
« on: 14 June 2009, 20:05:32 »

Now that i have had the Laguna a weeks or so i think i can rate it now,
Economy
Filled it up today for the 2nd time, the book says its a 70 litre tank, but, i could only get £57 in it @ 99.9 per litre, last time i filled it i only got £57 in it at the same pump at the same price, the milage between the two fill ups was 405 miles, that actually equates to about 32-33 mpg of mostly town driving 80%-20%, i think thats very good for a 1.8 engin, i am quite pleased with that, the car drives well and holds the road better than the mig did, but its lighter a lighter car. but the mig delivers 19 mpg round town which is most of my drivin
comfort
the seats are semi leather and quite soft, there is no lumbar support to speak of but that has only niggled mrs bbm initially to start with, the mig was comfier to sit in and moe spacious,  but where the Laguna comes in if the driving position is better, not only can you adjust the steering wheel up n down but it can be moved closer to you if needed, i feel comfier in the mig in either the front seats, but the laguna is comfier whilst driving.
usage
the Laguna is more useful due to the hatch.
looks
The mig beats the Laguna hands down, altho people i talk to say the looks of the Mig is dated, but thats personal preference, i liked the mig.
safety
mig got 3 star ncap safety rating
http://www.euroncap.com/tests/opel_vauxhall_omega_1998/53.aspx
Laguna got 5 star rating
http://www.euroncap.com/tests/renault_laguna_2003/158.aspx
personally, the safety of my passengers is valued above all, so this is the clincher and will probably persuade me to keep the Laguna
power

1.8 16v vs 2.5 v6....no comparison really.
Reliability
The mig is known for being bullet proof  but the Laguna has a history of leccy probs,
Image
personally think the mig has a better image. but thats not what image is, its what other people think, MOST people who know me and know the mig i had actually prefer the laguna and say its more modern looking and some said its better for the nevironment.
ice
well, i have always liked a good head unit (stereo) but left the migs alone and completely original. but the Renault is being replaced with a JVC mp3 head unit, so the mig wins this one
toys
cdx v dynamique, both have climate control, cc, obc,
mig has phone, laguna has blinds, pretty equal really
cup holders
mig 1, Laguna 5

they both have things going for them but the Laguna takes the edge i think, the part that swings it is the ncap ratings, so i think the laguna stays.

for now :'(??

from memory, Omega is NCAP 4* from 1998 onwards due to air airbags.

A colleague has had a couple of Lagunas (both Initiale, apparently top of range), had a whole heap of trouble with the first, the 2nd has been better.  Coincidentally, he had an old N reg 2.5 Omega CD before. He preferred driving the Omega, but the Laguna was far better equipped

A mate of mine bought a Laguna. He is a good mechanic but had loads of trouble with it. Luckily for him he could do all repairs himself ,but after about 12 months he has just sold it. It looked nice and wasn't high mileage, could just be the luck of the drawer! :-/

Missus used to have a Laguna, I hated it.

Cheap nasty car, every things made of crappy plastic.
Engine broke, every other switch broke, thin panels which dented at the slightest touch.
When some nutter wrote it off they hit it with an old corsa.
The back of the laguna disentegrated and the corsa drove away!

Never buying another renault!

never buy anything French, full stop.

Drove a megan once, bloody awfull. Broke the gear lever linkage and they gave me a scenic instead. Horrid. However was nearly tempted with a v6 laguna Estate once. Just could not get over the Renault badge.

Due to being over 6ft tall my only gripe with the omega is the driving position, and lack of extendable stearing column. To reach the wheel, you have to have the seat too close to the pedals.

The transmission tunnel intrudes a bit as well but a small price to pay for rear wheel drive and more stearing lock.

On the other hand if i was forced to have a French car it would be a laguna. Lets hope that never happens though, eh! Cant see it doing the mileage an omega is capable of.

Is it rear wheel drive?

Remember also that the mig is in a higher NCAP class to the Laguna and the bar gets raised so in reality they wil be on a par.

Your mig consumption seems poor which sudgests it had a problem although you ahev to consider the fact that you wont be able to accelerate nearly as hard in the Laguna as the mig.

As for the seats, you have not set the mig ones up correctly.

yesterday I drove the friends tiptronic laguna II  2.0..

too much electronics..but everything was working fine..comfy car ..sluggish in D mode.. comes back to life when in overdrive manual mode.. shocks and springs are mostly for comfort, when cornering my daily road curve even in 110 km/hr it leans on the sides (which I normally turn with 130-140 with clit or miggy without any fear)

The brakes response is slow and needs more pedal power..(dont know specific or problem in the car)

and really good on mpg figures.. :y

ps: rear vision is very limited and you must know the size of the car or you wont be happy in small park areas..
