Took advantage of my time off with my eldest at nursery and baby sleeping, to do some proper car work for once.

3.2: Rear boot struts & bonnet struts replaced, big improvements. Also 3M polished the headlights with that kit, again big improvements and looking a lot better. Then gave it an oil change, just for good measure. All done by 11:30 am.

I found some more rust behind the nearside trim that sits above the side part of the bumper.

Gave it a much needed wash.  :)
Got some sensible advice from RobG, who talked me out of buying another one.  ;D

Ignored it, and bought something else. Additional, not a replacement :y

Any guesses? I'll give you a clue, it cost £450

Changed to oil in the Shag. Took about 30mins, as I was faffing around taking photos for a guide for one of the Jag sites - in the desperate hope it might inspire some of the members there not to keep saying "take it to the dealer" every time it needs screenwash etc.

Sucked out? Saw door guide, will look for you oil one.

Your guides alone might swing me to the XJ  :D

Found it, looks simple enough. Basically same method I did on my VW but you used 12v pump.

Any oil pump will do I suspect. The thing is to get right tubes/adapters to get a good seal on the oil tube on the engine. My oil pump was designed to go down dipstick (like most), but a short length of thicker tube (from a knackered easibleed kit) fitted over the Lidl provided tube, and with a bit of heat to soften it, the other end easily "adjusted" to do on the engine's tube :y

I plan every few changes, to drain it via the sump plug, but there are 10,000 screws holding the small front undertray one...  ...which has to come off to get the wngine/gearbox undertray off, to get to sump plug.

And, yes, tunnie, simple enough :y, took 6 mins to get old oil out.  The biggest faff is having to wait 10mins between each level check (although I have found how to get live oil readings from dash now, rather than average oil level readings)

That's good  :y

Nice Jag provided dedicated extraction pipe, as said I don't think I got it all via dip on VW.

The XJ 3.0 is same lump as in XF?

XF's are much more within budget

Same basic lump as the 3.0d in XF, but in XJ, only available in full fat tune, whereas most XF 3.0d are the halfarsed 230bhp variants, its the S variants that have the 270/300bhp.

Costwise, I was looking at Portfolio S XFs, and struggled to find a good one for what I was prepared to pay.  When I say struggled, I mean completely failed, hence I don't have one. Which is what made me look at XJs, and XJ Portfolio 3.0d is the most common model.  If you're looking at 1st gen Luxury/Luxury Premiums with the halfarsed 3.0d, they are common and thus cheap.
