Now will an AR35 handle 255bhp?

Well, I thought the basic rule of thumb was AR35 = 350 BHP, but apparently it's not as straight forward as that.

All I know is that me an' a couple of the ABS guys have mildly tuned their 24v Senators/Carltons and achieved a ballhair away from 250 BHP. At that point the box was starting to complain a bit, but an ECU upgrade seemed to cure some of it's ails.

I though it was based on torque (i.e. real power!) and not bhp.....as in an AR35 is good for 350Nm.....

Hmm..

Well if HP = (Torque*RPM)/5252 then the AR35 should handle an engine that produces 258hp at 5252RPM and therefore about 320hp at 6500rpm...

hp is a bit less than bhp though.

Thats what I would like to know, they still look good today!! They should still be making them IMO

Vaux being the idiots they are just did not give it the engines it chassis and built qauilty deserved.

Need a big juicy V8 as a new MV8 & the police would have bought them buy the truck load, put the Turbo unit in the VXR as a mid sport model. And get the new 3.5 Diesel unit off BMW, or even the older 3.0 Diesel

I dont know to much about the handling of cars, but the stig cleary had problems with the handling of the vectra as well as clarkson, and i imagine the stig is at least a competent driver, just my two cents  :-X

I believe 'The Stig' is Martin Brundle

Yeah, it didn't mess about!!

I tried to measure mine a few timesand came up with arond 6.7 - 6.9 depending on the way the wind blew and mine wasn't the most powerful one.

if you mean the lumps fitted to the 530d and 535d ... I remember hearing that the 535d is in fact a 3 litre engine too - however it is a twin turbo unit instead of the single one fitted to the 530d, they called it the 535d to make it easier to differentiate between the two. Marketing ploys again ...  ::)
