Rear window dead

I had the car a week before I noticed that one of the rear electric windows does not go down.  What is usually the problem?  The switch in the door is the only one in the car where the little yellow light is not on.  The way that the loom bends around the edge of the door when you open it all the way I would not be surprised if the wires are broken after 148K.  AFAIK the car is a mini-facelift, V reg and definitely not a full facelift.

Yes, its mini facelift. Could be faulty switch, or unplugged switch.  Other than that, you'll have to start working back through the loom...

If it was the loom then its easier to get a replacement and fit it as they are a single piece which plugs into a multiway connector at the base of the B post

It might not be the loom can you hear the motor going when you press the switch only I had a motor which you could hear moving but the wire had got tangled up in the motor when a piece which moves along the runner had broken.

Worth looking if it is the motor itself they are easy enough to change you just need a rivet gun and a drill for removing the old rivets.

Good luck with sourcing the problem certainly sounds like a missing live feed causing what you've said.

Is it just the one side, is the light on in the middle, I'm guessing the one fuse runs the lot.

My money is on a broken cable/connection between the pillar and the door, especially if the door has seen a lot of action, after 148K it probably has.  ;)

That's what I was thinking.  It was a one owner MD-type.  I figure he always put his briefcase in the back.

I'm placing my bets that the loom is at fault be interesting to know if there is a feed running to the connector though as it maybe this part of the loom at fault.

Well . . . it's playing a different game now.  Took the door card off.  After just poking around the light now works in the switch.  Window still doesn't move.  All power/signals look ok.  Relay in the regulator clicks on, and then back off after a second, when you push the switch up or down.  No noise from the motor.  Tried holding the switch down to 'teach' the anti-crimp but no luck.  Is the motor just shot?

Sounds like the motor maybe at fault can you disconnect it and see if there is any sign of water or something got into the join. Maybe affecting the workings etc.

If it was just a shot motor, that wouldn't have affected the switch, which is now working since you had a rummage around.

Too much of a coincidence me thinks, I'd still go with the loom/connector.  ;)

I'm game to do more checking, but I don't know what else to look for.  The connector at the motor has 1 gnd, 2 hot, and 2 other pins - 1 goes hot when you press up on the switch, and the other when you press down.  Seems right to me?

Its a shame you dont have a spare motor to try.
