cambelt change
« on: 14 September 2006, 13:33:43 »

I have recently changed my cambelt, idlers and waterpump, what a doddle it was with the cambelt change video in my laptop, I could rewind and check if I missed something and apart from a Knackered tork bolt everything went smoothly.
I would publicly like to thank Mark for the loan of the camkit, and the lads for an exellent dvd I would not have tackled this job without it.
I noticed however there were no credits to the production crews, but thanks to you all for making an essential  and good vid.
The Haynes manual is worse than useless, dvds are the way to go.
Thats two jobs (the other was oil cooler change) I have tackled on My car that I would never had done if it wasnt for the exellent help and encouragement I have had from this site. Well done.

Looks like the locking kits are going to be in demand for a while.   ;D

Not for me I'm afraid, I watched it yesterday & it's waaaaaaaay out of my league.
When I open the bonnet I scratch my head & gulp  :o but it has given me confidence in some smaller jobs, might even attempt a plug change some time!

It looks much more scary than it actually is..  Just take your time and keep the DVD on hand and just Watch - do - watch - do etc..  It is really not that hard a job to do.  Plus, you have the support of the experts on this forum.

I to was indeed scared to tackle this job, being on a small pension it became a nessesary evil to take the bull by the horns and dive in, a couple of weeks before I did the oil cooler change, that to was daunting. But with the help and "if you do this and this" it isnt so bad.
indeed I am rather proud to have acomplished these jobs, and would now be quite happy to tackle other jobs if and when they turn up.

allanm. I followed you earlier thread with some interest including the highs and lows, I can imagine what you must have gone through and I Hope you get your Car sorted soon.

Robin hood. Great dvd you did a grand job.

I'll second that, what great experts they are as well.

Coventry isn't that far from me. If you have a nice warm garage, I would happily assist you do your first cambelt. Allenm still has my locking kit, so can't do for a few weeks...

Cheers guys. I wouldn't say it's warm, there's no heat! But it is a double garage (1/2 full of crap at the moment, but can easily be moved) not a great deal of light & very limited tools. There's no great hurry.
