"G" Cams
« on: 24 January 2010, 09:39:53 »

Hi all,

Hoping someone can point me in the right direction, I own a 2.6 Vectra GSi, have been told by a few people a good upgrade is getting "G" cams from a 3.0 V6 omega, does anyone know where I can source these from, or part numbers?

Also does it make a difference what year the car was, or are they all the same?

Thanks

Excuse me for hi-jacking this topic, but a couple of questions.
Can you fit these cams fromm the 3.0l in a 2.5 engine, or just the 2.6 as an upgrade? and has there been any actual tests to show the bhp increase? also, how is the running of the car affected through the rev range, do these cams for instance increase top end power at the expense of lower mid range power and driveability? and how is the economy affected?
In other words, what are the overall effects?

I know the 2.5 vectra gsi comes with 2 G cams and 2 A cams buts again thats a vectra....

I just seen a youtube video with G cams in the 2.6 Vectra and it idles fine and pulls great when at 4000rpm, here is a chart of the differences on vectras:

Engine Plan - Y26SE - Development Number 1345456555 GM CODE MBK26VEC1

Capacity - 2597cc
Max Power - 171ps@5800rpm
Max Tourque - 203 nm (179.7lbs ft)@ 4000rpm

Cam Directive - Block Number 5565454 - Cam Code A Bank 1 Cam Code E Bank 2

Modification Plan - Y26SE - Development Number 667656553X GM CODE MBK26GSIP

Capacity - 2597cc
Max Power - 194ps@5700rpm
Max Tourque - 299 nm (209lbs ft)@ 4000rpm

Cam Directive - Block Number 654778X - Cam Code G Bank 1 Cam Code G Bank 2

Modification Plan - Y26SE - Development Number 99656534555 GM CODE MBK26GSI

Capacity - 2597cc
Max Power - 180ps@5700rpm
Max Tourque - 274 nm (202lbs ft)@ 4000rpm

Cam Directive - Block Number 6554542 - Cam Code A Bank 1 Cam Code A Bank 2

top plan is what the non Gsi's have A's and E's,

Second plan is what the Gsi should have had, 4 G's.

Third plan is what the Gsi actually has, 4 A's.

The theory I heard about the reason the Gsi got A's instead of G's was that the power and torque figures with G's was too close to the 3.2 in the omega that vaux put the brakes on. They worried everyone would save 3k by buying a 2.6 omega and putting G cams in instead of buying the 3.2!

Thanks for that Kevin, will be useful, just hope these cams are still available.

Another question though does anyone know if there would be any timing issues on chaning these over?

Thx

All the while there are 3.0 V6s being scrapped, they'll be available.  :y

They don't wear significantly, so 2nd hand will be fine.

If that's the case, either keep it so you can return the car to stock or sell it, get a decent 3.0l lump and get everything done like ported heads, polished plenums etc.
