Last year I bought 2 x 5 litres of Shell Helix from ECP for £20 delivered.
Shell Helix is a brand name, and available in many different specs. So you don't want to just grab "Shell Helix" and bung it in, it needs to be the right Shell Helix :y

The usual Dexos2 we use Omegas (those with more money than sense :D) is not suitable for modern diesels, sadly :(

AA - what is the exact spec in your glovebox manual.

If I learnt anything from the saga locating suitable oil for the Jag, its that the automatic oil recommendations from the likes of ECP/CP4L are wrong, and suggest an incorrect oil.

The cheapest I could find for mine (which is a different spec to the one in your original link, which was a different type of low SAPS oil) was from Tradeclub, and was around £50+VAT for 20l.

Presumably thats a merc spec, what does it translate to in industry standard terms.

I bought a specific oil matching the Ford 934b spec mentioned in my manual.

The oil you bought should quote numbers on the side of the can.

Can you check for me please, and see if they match?

So that's prob the one you want, but check it means those Merc specs you posted up as well :y

My C1 one clearly stated it met the relevant JLR specs and Ford specs :y

I have to question why anyone would buy a diesel and do 5k a year and to then change the oil every 6 months. If you were doing the mileage, I'd agree, but that just seems excessive.

A lot of garages now just buy oil in 5L containers, as there are so many different types/spec recommended by the car makers, they cover their 455 by just getting genuine stuff. It means the customer pays more, but they don't want to ride the risk of future problems. Gone are the days where they keep 10w40 and 5w30 in quantity and it gets one or the other.

There was a 5 year old Jag diesel (the Transit engine one) in my mates garage at weekend. It came in with trouble starting. It had done 15k and really needed a new engine. Apparently, the car had tried literally 100's of times (from ECU read) to run the DPF regen cycle, but due to short journeys, it never got chance to complete. The result? The turbo was screwed and there was a 4mm gap in the piston rings and of course lovely scores and a lip on the bores.

The sales guy who sold that customer a diesel wants shooting.
