AR 35/25 Slushbox Identification ??
« on: 28 April 2019, 10:56:04 »

Hi all
is there any way of identifting between the AR 35 & the Ar 25 WITHOUT looking at the ID plate ?    Car is 2001 2.6 CDX auto so would have had an AR25 from factory.

The ID plate seems impossible to view from under the car as it seems to be behind the selection mechanism.

Just wondering as  I found a list of jobs to be done from the previous owner when clearing the loadspace out.  Fit AR35 was ticked off along with fit 2x rear wheelbearings & full cambelt /tensioners change .

Filters, oil change, cam cover gaskets were listed but not ticked.   :-\ :-\

So basic question is  . . .can you identify an AR35 just by looking at it from under the car?   :-\ :-\ :-\

I have been under  . . .but it seems impossible to see it with the selector mechanism in front of it .     BTW   my gearbox is working fine :) :)  . . . just curious that it may have had an AR35 fitted by a  previous owner.

Shouldn't think so if the previous owner retro fitted it.
Al, best option might be to get it put up on a ramp and then you can wipe the area clean and shine a torch in there.

Thing is....is it worth the effort? Does it really make any difference? Unless, of course, you're thinking an AR35 could be worth a bit more come the end of vehicle life.

Even if it is an AR25, it should be reasonably reliable in a 2.6.  You'll have plenty of warning of failure. Then slap in an Ar35 if you still want to keep the car.

Its not like the TD lump which will guarantee to kill its gearbox at around 120k (or about 120 miles if chipped)

I would be the same as Al. If I thought there might be one installed I would really want to know. It would keep me awake at night.  ;D

Yes you can tell easily from the colour of the ID plate. Blue plate is AR35 and yellow plate is AR25. Let me know how you get on.
