These are great. What a collection! A lot of work has gone into that. Thanks for sharing.

Microfibre washmit for the washy bit.

Microfibre cloths are the way to go these days for polishing/interior/windows.

Costco do a large pack of good quality ones. (but you probably won't need that many as you don't do much car cleaning).

You'll be an expert again before you know it!

Omega General Help / Re: Alloy cam covers
« on: 08 June 2018, 00:48:21 »
I did mine a couple of months back, worked a treat.

However, the alloy covers were rarer than hen's teeth. I scoured the internet.

Until a scrappy in Scotland asked me if I'd tried any of the Vectra FB groups. I hadn't even thought of doing that. He said they always come up on there.

So I joined a few, and had some in about an hour. They arrived a couple of days later, fitted them and no oil leaks. My old plastic ones were well out of shape and I wasn't going to pay £180 a side for new ones.

So I'd suggest joining a few Vectra groups. Expect to pay 60-80 quid for a set.

Autoaid. Been with them years, called out the once, all sorted, even though I was in one of my yanks and they didn't cover LHD at the time.

Then I had to pay the recovery guy up front and claim the money back - which was very efficient. I'm sure I read that now they pay on your behalf. Could be mistaken though.

I guess the wait is dictated by the local firm they use, and some of those will be better than others.

That's being overly picky for a 18 year old car.

Being more concerned about a couple of minor cosmetic issues VS the car being solid mechanically shows the guy to be a bit of a twonk.

I paid that 5 years ago for mine, and every panel has a dink or scratch! But it was low mileage and mechanically solid, and the interior was very good. And I wanted a car I could park anywhere and not worry about it.

I can never understand how someone can expect to pay less than a grand for an 18 year old car, yet want it in perfect mechanical and cosmetic condition. If you want a perfect car, buy a bloody new one and pay many times the price.

I saw yours on ebay and thought it looked nice, and was impressed by the very in-depth and honest description, then realised it was yours!

I get 20mpg on average on my 3.0.

Was 18mpg with my old whiney gearbox, but thankfully I broke that.

Been a while since I had mine put in but mine is torroidal, in the spare wheel well and around 70l? I get a 55l fill from empty.

Lasts me 200-230 miles on a 3.0 V6.

I had to raise the floor a bit, and used polystyrene sheet to do that. Cut it to shape, laid it under the boot carpet and put that back on top. Made a carpet-wrapped fillet at the boot opening to hide the edge. No need for wooden frame. No problem with heavy objects as the load is well spread by the carpet assembly.

Works a treat, and only lost a small amount of boot height. Less than 2 inches, probably 40-50 mm or so? I can measure it if need be as it's been a while since I did it.

I don't notice the loss of space really, the fuel savings more than make up for it. Still managed to fit a dishwasher in there!

No spare wheel, but in 25 years of driving I've only had to change a wheel at the roadside twice, and I have recovery.

Omega General Help / Re: DIS Pack
« on: 22 November 2017, 18:36:41 »
Thanks omegod.

Zirk, good points. Yes, runs fine on petrol. Had it in my head it would be ignition as LPG more sensitive than petrol to ignition problems and ignition components haven't had any maintenance for a while. But should really have more of a think about it before jumping in with a new DIS pack.

I've not checked for codes, but I guess I should.

Spark plug wells should be fine, as I recently did the gaskets and breathers, but will check them also.

Was rushing a bit as I have a mate in the area at the weekend who works at a garage and gets me parts very cheap. But I think I should investigate a bit first.

Thanks for the advice.

Tim

Omega General Help / DIS Pack
« on: 20 November 2017, 23:19:48 »
I'm getting an intermittent misfire under load while on LPG and it seems like the general consensus from previous posts point to the DIS pack.

So I'm going to try changing that first.

Looking at the ones for sale, they seem to have different shaped input plugs. Rectangular, rounded etc.

I don't want to be mucking about getting to it twice to check if I can help it, so are there any hints as to what plug it will be without actually looking at it? Is it a year thing, or just random?

It's a 3.0 2000 Elite Estate FL.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Tim

That's an excellent vid. Nice and clear. Good job mate.

I've been up twice in a glider and enjoyed it immensely. The second time I went up with an ex-aerobatic champion.

I'd not previously realised you could loop a glider. But it seems you can.

A few years back I got the bug to get a pilot's licence of some kind and after lots of chats with a couple of pilots I know, I decided on gliding as it was cheaper and a different challenge.

Unfortunately, I then also decided to buy a classic muscle car and all my spare cash was converted very quickly into petrol and spare parts.

Never mind, one day I will take it up. Love flying.

Ahh, I wonder who the aerobatic guy was and which airfield?

I do basic level aerobatics but only really often enough to stay current.

I fly at Lasham normally. Wondering if that's where you flew?

It was from Wycombe Air Park, and I can't recall the guy's name unfortunately.

He did a couple of Chandelle turns, then asked if I fancied experiencing a loop. He put the nose down to gain some airspeed, then over we went. Christ on a bike, though my stomach was going to fall out my *rse. Wonderful feeling!

Was a few years ago now and the only pics I have were on a film camera and none in the air unfortunately.

Reading this, I'm getting the urge to have another trial lesson just to get up in the air!

Omega General Help / Re: Noisy differential?
« on: 27 July 2017, 23:54:55 »
Can I suggest the centre propshaft bearing?

I had a noise that I thought was the diff going, but it didn't change with different loads as such.

If I remember correctly it was a 'hissing/whine'.

Ended up being the centre bearing, changed that. Sorted. Easy and cheap fix too, compared to the diff.

Google Drive is excellent. I use that for my work stuff - I pay a couple of quid a month for 100gb. I've used it for years and never had any problems.

I use Crashplan for my archive stuff. It's $60 a year for unlimited storage. I'm currently uploading about 1gb to it.

The way I read google drive info, you have a folder on your desktop, and anything in that folder is synced between google and your machine automatically. Is that correct?

If so then it's just what I'm looking for :). But, that being the case, what do you use crashplan for?

Sorry for all the questions. This is all new to me ;)

Sorry, been away a couple of days.

I use Google for my business stuff, I have a 100gb plan. I have a Google drive folder on my HDD, and folders inside that. Used that for a few years, no issues whatsoever.

The crashplan is for my personal stuff, because I have a lot of video and photos which add up to around 1TB. Google is too expensive for that kind of storage, so I went with CrashPlan for that. Hope that clarifies it a bit.

As far as i can remember .someone please correct me if im wrong here but can you not change the waterpimp on a v6 without taking anything off the engine at all? Just the bagpipes for acess.i seem to remember the bolts are all easy to get at once its pulley is off ?

Yes, you can. It's fiddly and you need to be careful to:

a) Not crack the cambelt cover when you undo the waterpump bolts, as your socket/extension bar will be pressing against it
b) Not drop anything into the covers while removing the pump or while it's out.

I did it. I did crack the plastic cambelt cover a little, but nothing major and I put rag inside the cover to stop anything falling down.
