meanwhile back at the ranch...should i let him bypass this or go for a used replacement,  which would be the better?

Well if it's been disconnected this long without detrement just bypass it and remove it altogether ;) :y

Make sure you plug the diesel pipe properly though! You don't want a leak or create slicks for bikers now do you? ;)

it was a mechanic who suggested this to me as an option, so im assuming he knows all the details on it, i will however mention that to him.. :y
