So the NS wing will be off very soon, and I wanted to check all that junk behind it is the Secondary Air Injection system - or am I being thick and it's something else? I know the general rule is kind of just pull the fuse and forget, but as the wing, door, bumper is all coming off next week, I thought it would be a good time to completely strip everything out that's unnecessary

No need to remove wing to remove it.

The large pump can come out, obviously horns and wiring for fogs needs to stay.

ECU cooling I would imagine without looking at a pic. Pump sits between wheel and door usually.

You sure?  Mine was in front of the wheel and had the horns bolted onto it.

At some point next week when the wing's off for door realignment/bumper refitting etc.. I'll take a snap sowe can conclusively confirm what it is. If it's definitely not SAI though, I'll leave well alone, however

My SAI pump was behind the front bumper, just in front of the driver wheel (horn and SAI pump share the bracket).

SAI removal - complete -> remove pump, rubber piping towards the valve, valve assembyl, aluminum piping going towards the engine (the part that is in front of the engine, looking like an odd branch, with some wessel on it), and blank-of the pipings coming from the manifolds (one at each side of the engine).

Ideally, you would want to remove those pipes at the side of the engine too, but they are not easily accessed (they connect at the top of the exhaus manifold), and if something brakes...well...the manifold will need to be taken of...and we all know how that easy is 

PS. connector for the SAI valve - strap it down with cable-tie to something (to make sure it doesnt hit the fan).

Um mine is between bumper and wheel on passenger side on my car on drivers side between door and wheel is the fuel evaporator tank which is at the end of the fuel tank breather pipe. Mine is a MFL V6, may be different on other models.

You sure?  Mine was in front of the wheel and had the horns bolted onto it.

ECU cooling pump, not large SAI pump which is by the horns.

Be upgrading to 2.6 manifolds in the summer, so I may do the whole SAI removal at that point then. Thanks, as always, chaps.

I'm guessing the humming sound for the first few minutes of starting the car is the SAI pump? Sounds like it's coming from the front nearside.

Why would you want to remove the SAI? Does it take any longer to warm the cats up without one?

Because unless you're a tree hugging do-gooder, it doesn't really do much useful. I'm guessing because you drive a large, powerful car, you care as much as I do about emissions.

The system does fail, mostly the 1 way valve, the rubber pipework, or the pump goes *REALLY* noisy.

Does it take any longer to warm the cats up without one?

Yes.

Plus all the extra gubbins across the front of the engine gets in the way when you have to work on it. All of mine went in the bin when I fitted later manifolds that don't use it.

Have completely removed all the necessary pipework from the SAI system on mine, only thing I haven't removed is the pump... which fuse drives it....?

Coz the wife thinks it funny everytime I start the Miggy it sounds like a ruddy turbine spinning up....
