Windscreen trim strip falling off!!! What to do?
« on: 23 June 2016, 16:25:57 »

 >:( After the most excellent service of Autofarce some months ago, as they used the original old, knackered trim strip, it's now starting to part company with the screen. Specifically the rubber part, there's a thin plastic channel which appears to sit slightly beneath the screen. I've compared with the Peanut, and the peanut's rubber appears securely bonded to this plastic trim strip, and even moves around. Now one option is to try and remove the second hand one from the Peanut - but experience tells me that may end in tears. Also, I have no idea if I only need to be taking the rubber bit. No clue!

I wasnt there when they fitted the screen, so didn't see the 'magic' happen.

Can I pull off just the rubber, or will/should I remove the plastic as well with it ok? Lost and now completely detached down the OS A-pillar

The rubber clips into a channel on the trims... rubber can be reused, trims generally cannot...

Either way, fixing it properly is a screen out job :'(

Is it just the lower part or the hole trim around the sides and top?

Mine did the same. Apparently the rubber is now NLS. Pull it off before it makes a bid for freedom and call them out again!

Funnily enough, mine is also coming away since the windscreen got replaced, and I vaguely remember the fella having trouble refitting it too....

Get them back to refit it as they have not done it correctly to start with. Should be something in the sale' of goods and services act somewhere

Ta chaps.

Apparently they used to supply them, but now they don't - not sure if this is linked to them being NLS or not. One of the blokes actually said "hey we ought to supply these, instead of reusing the old one"

Screen out. Brill.  :'(

They go with the turn up and hope approach because they can't guarantee to have the parts in place to do the job properly, and they don't like to cancel the appointment as it costs them and annoys the customer...

I would rather the job be delayed and done properly than have it oppsed up two or three times, but maybe that's just me :-X

They cancelled and/or didn't show up/showed up with the wrong screen four/five times. I was without a windscreen and of course transport, for over a week.  :(

Think I'll Tigerseal mine back on..

Mine came off whilst on our way home today, as soon as I hit the legal limit it started to come away and made a hell of a buzzing noise too....

Got hoe and reinserted it back into where it supposed to go, but will get some Tigerseal tomorrow and glue it back on...

The problem you have is most insurance companies refuse to pay for trims. Insurance companies have deals with windscreen companies. Like they will pay a set price per job but refuse to pay for trim, clips etc

If they have to use trims its not insurance companies who pay for them. And as we all know a trim kit for an omega ain't cheap.

If say insurance pay £100 plus the excess. But you have the screen and the bonding kit that's most of that cash away. If the windscreen company has to pay for trim kit. Its not worth doing the job. Hence why they bring out the wrong screen etc. Job doesn't get done and its off or sometimes customer kicks up with insurance company then send Jo to another company then the cycle starts again

Its not windscreen companies at fault its the insurance dictating prices

Not planning on putting mine through its test next year, so no problem there :)

Isn't the windscreen held in with a type of PU adhesive anyway....? which is what Tigerseal is made from....

Kinda missed the point ::) the rubber is clipped not glued and the trim frames are an interference fit on the screen, and again, not glued...

Anything which alters the profile of the clip on the rubber renders it scrap, likewise the trims.
