EGR Blank Results
« on: 18 October 2014, 15:59:36 »

Yup. This works!!!  :) :) :) :) :) :) :)

One word to sum the car up now.... responsive. :)

I used a 0.5mm steel plate as I don't have laser tools etc and this was handy around the garae and easy to cut.

SO.
Would one of our resident engineering members be able to make me one up about 3mm for some beer tokens? :)

Can you still get the blanking plates from Vx?  Only a couple of quid when I last bought one.

Having said that, they are very, very thin.

Didn't realise Vx made them. But if they're thin I may aswell keep my home made one on.

So if anyone could do me a 3mm one (or two to have one as a spare) that would be sweet :)

An EGR blank from 3mm steel is a hacksaw and file job. Only takes a few minutes; far less time than setting up in a mill.
I would still consider it to be viable in 10mm steel, but would probably want a beer whilst doing it.

To be fair, the Vx ones are about the thickness of a coke can, and feel like it, too.

I got one from Vaux and it wasn't thin (at least 5mm - cover that is not blanking plate) - I tried it but didn't find any benefit plus it used more petrol. Its still in my garage somewhere.

The one in the linked thread looks nothing like the ones I have bought in the past.

This is the one you linked to;

The ones I have bought are identical to the 'gasket' but with the hole blocked off.  They still allow actuation of the EGR without the EGR being able to do its job, if that makes sense? (The ECU thinks it's working, but in reality, it's not)

Thanks for that link.

Although to be honest I despise giving money to Vx after they charged me £7 for an exhaust gasket so I'd rather either pay a member to do it. Or, as I've already done, ordered some 3mm mild steel and do it myself.

As for the discussion in that thread....

The idle isn't affected since doing this. Idle was bang on before the fitment of the blank. And idle is still bang on with it fitted.

Only now i'm driving round in sports mode and when I want to when i'm part throttle and want to jam the throttle (without causing kickdown) I have immediate power.

One very, very pleased bear cub!

Do you have a part number for those? I might have a bash at that.
