Winter Vehicle
« on: 21 October 2014, 21:26:44 »

Was looking at this....

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1997-SAAB-9000-CS-TURBO-AUTO-GREEN-IN-WORKING-ORDER-/321547279697?pt=Automobiles_UK&hash=item4addb61d51

...and thinking, put in a cheeky offer, tax it for 6 months, use it through the winter, when the weather improves SORN it and strip the parts to sell on Ebay then extract the 2.3 and plonk it in a tidied up Calibra.....

Only slight issue with the plan is that I would likely have my nads removed with a skewer by Mrs VXL!

I was in a funny situation this year when my insurance renewal came through on my 2.2 mig at a ridiculous £500. I ended up buying this http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/index.php?topic=126734.0 and insuring it for a year for less than £500 and broke the mig. I have to say this one has turned out to be brilliant and with a bit of work is a minter and runs like a dream.

Oh. I presumed something with 4 wheel drive. Something with wnter capabilities.

....although something amphibious would be of more use in recent years.

You've forgotten the additional costs in repeatedly getting a tow out of ditches, going by the sorry state of the suspension of most Saab 9000's I've driven in the past few years ;D

(I should add, not necessarily Saab's fault, down to Saab owners being tighter than a tunnie ;D)

Well.

I do like them for some reason, the 2.3 Turbos do get a shuffle on (in dry conditions!).

The idea was that it's cheap enough to not worry if you stick it in a ditch (Me? Never  ::) :D)

Of course the downside is that you'll probably go to pick it up and find it needs all four tyres replaced, brakes all round, an exhaust etc etc just to use it daily.

Wrong wheel drive, auto, c r@p suspension, summer tyres and forced induction. Sounds perfect. :y

Kevin, you need to live life on the edge!

In this, in -10 degrees, in the pitch black winter evenings you could be right there......

Edge of a ditch
Edge of a cliff
Edge of the crash barrier with the vehicle on both carriageways.

Oh, I do. Currently wondering whether to tax the Westfield or lay it up at the end of the month. :-\

I used to know a Finnish guy who (living in Finland) bought a twin turbo Supra (the wedge shaped one) as his "winter beater" ..

.. well, I suppose it was more sensible than his 400whp MR2 Roadster (with the dyno graphs to back it up) ;D
