General Discussion Area / Notebook / PC question ..
« on: 31 May 2012, 20:43:49 »
My daughter has a 10" notebook computer which is running a bit slow and is 'clogged up' with stuff! I would like to reformat it, and start from scratch. It is currently running Windows 7 Starter, which is good enough, though I would consider upgrading it at the same time. Just wondering how you would do this without a disc drive?

Omega General Help / Air con sorted! Other problems .....
« on: 31 May 2012, 20:34:49 »
Took the car to local dealer today who recharged the aircon, less than £50, and now works a treat. Happy days  :y

On the down side, got a copy of the VHC (Visual Health Check)  :'(
I already know I need tyres, but the mech also thinks the cam covers, diff oilseals, and rear shocks are leaking  :'(
Oh, and the back box is 'holed and leaking'  :-\

Ah well ........

On the subject of shocks, do I need to replace the self levellers with self levellers so to speak? Or will standard shocks suffice? Not sure if funds will stretch to Bilsteins as often recommended though.

General Discussion Area / Tyre weight?

Roughly how much does a tyre weigh?
Just considering buying some tyres from a private seller and wondering about a price to courier.

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Radio fuse ...
« on: 17 May 2012, 02:24:31 »
I think this was asked recently but I can't find it!
Tonight the CCR2006 wouldn't turn on. Tried changing fuse 6 but no difference, though I'm not convinced this is the correct location. For example, when I removed fuse 7 by accident, the courtesy light went out.
Anyway, I'm pretty sure other locations were suggested previously, but a refresher would be much appreciated.
Of course, it's always possible that the fuse is not the problem, but I'll start there.

General Car Chat / Fitting poly bushes
« on: 30 April 2012, 03:23:55 »
From other threads it would seem the bushes can be fitted to the arms 'in situ' or have I misunderstood?
Assuming I'm right ( I know .....   ::) ) can this be done with the car on ramps, or must it be stands? I'm not overly familiar with the geometry setup, so trying to establish if the wheels need to be suspended to allow sufficient access and freedom.
Ramps would give greater clearance to remove existing bushes, which I'm hoping will be the difficult part? And does anything else need adjusted, loosened, etc or can you simply just work on the bush area itself?
Going to get everything together to have a go, and I'll have a good look underneath to try and get my bearings, but information and advice gratefully received  ;)

Omega General Help / Thermostat knackered ....
« on: 29 April 2012, 11:06:43 »
Been trying to keep an eye on my temp gauge. Had a few suspicions, and with recent posts here, wanted to see if there was a problem.
Didn't have the Omega out at all yesterday, but had to go out this morning. A 30 mile ish trip, one way. For the first 15 miles or so the gauge didn't move at all. Then it crept up towards 75 / 80. The next time I looked it had dropped back down, and by the end of my journey the temp was hovering around 80. I guess that confirms it  :(

So, parts recommendations please   ???

Not sure I'll change it myself but will get the parts in case I end up trying to do the cambelt ......

General Car Chat / Filters
« on: 19 April 2012, 17:03:30 »
Finally got my TC up and running again with local dealers. I know, took long enough  :-[
Anyway, got some oil and a filter, but there were no pollen or air filters in stock. Was told they could only be ordered in lots of 3 and 5 respectively, so he wouldn't be able to get me one! Whilst I can sort of see his point, I was a little disappointed.
I'm going to check some of the local factors tomorrow, but I know Halfords do filters too. Has anyone used them?

General Car Chat / Water pump recommendation?
« on: 08 April 2012, 20:36:09 »
Just wondering, if I end up changing this myself, is there a brand or option favoured amongst those in the know?
Vx is around £70 on TC I think.

Omega General Help / Pulling to the left ...
« on: 02 April 2012, 18:14:14 »
As usual! The car always pulled to the left, but the steering wheel was 'off centre' when driving straight. Had the alignment done today - "yes sir, it was out but sorted now". To be fair, steering wheel now straight, but the car still pulls to the left. So I'm guessing maybe wishbones need looking at?
Could someone please clarify if there are any specific symptoms? I have yet to jack up the wheels and check, but when I do, isn't it 3 / 9 wobble as an indicator? Also need to check for uneven tyre wear which I wasn't aware of.
I've had a quick look at the maintenance guide which may become clearer when actually working with the car, but in all honesty, is this a DIY job? On a scale of 1 to 5, as Haynes would say, how many spanners?

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Phantom radio now too ?!
« on: 12 March 2012, 07:02:25 »
Parked the Omega last night in the drive, locked and secured it as normal. Went out this morning and thought I could hear music, and as I approached the car I could see the radio was on! This has happened before although at that time I thought I had left it on by accident. That does not now seem to be the case. Has anyone heard of this happening before? I suppose I could have put it on by accident on exiting the car somehow, but I doubt it.  :-\

General Car Chat / Peugeot 206 brakes .......
« on: 05 March 2012, 14:46:01 »
The handbrake on SWMBOs 206 is almost vertical before it holds. Ok, slight exaggeration, but you know what I mean. I'm presuming it's not simply a case of tightening again, but before I go looking for something that's not there, are there 'tensioners' or something similar at the wheel end which may need replaced?
Any advice gratefully received. It's a 1.1S, 2004.
TIA

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Ah well ............
« on: 06 February 2012, 22:18:28 »
Well I got the cdc3 fitted into the unit, which was actually pretty straightforward with the guide  :y
The door at the front of the cd was a different story  :o
Eventually got it sorted, all in one piece, and finally got round to fitting it tonight.
It all powers up, and the cassette and radio work fine. It searches through the magazine for discs, which I presume is normal, but won't eject  :-[
It goes through the motions and attempts to eject the magazine, but it only comes out a tiny bit. Can't decide whether or not the eject system is shot, or the magazine is stuck, but don't want to try and force it anyway.
I used the guide purely to fit the cd, so will have to revisit it for a potential fix if even possible?
Can't change the circuit board so I'm hoping it's something else, and really easy ................. yeah right!!!!!

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / CCR2006 wiring
« on: 05 February 2012, 17:07:42 »
Thought I'd have a go today at changing the cdc3 from my donor unit. So far so good  :y
On removing my own head unit there are two wires coming from the area of the RDM button, just wound up and lying loose. These are not visible on my donor unit  :-\
They obviously weren't needed by whoever took the original CDC out, but where should they go?
Any help much appreciated. Not sure I want to connect the new one if these are required.
Cheers

Before I join the sky telephone queue, does anyone know how to add this channel to the epg?
