Car: Elite 2.6 facelift, 2001.

I've had the car three years or so, when I first got it there was the remnants of a hands-free kit. This I removed as I didn't want it, need it, and it almost certainly wasn't compatible with my phone.

I've now got a Navman N60i GPS system, and am toying with the idea of hooking this up to provide muting of stereo / playing of Navman audio through car speakers.

Now, take a look at this (800kb JPEG image) taken from the passenger footwell, this was where the hands-free was hooked into...

http://www.summat.co.uk/P1010138.JPG

It shows an 18-pin connector, with three wires snipped...

Red, presumably 12Vdc
Black, presumably Ground
Brown, unknown

And the original wiring going to the connector...

Shielded twin - guessing microphone
twisted-pair brown & blue - function ?
black - another ground?
yellow - function?

Ideally, I'd like to source 12 volts, and route the headphone output from the Navman.

Does anyone have any idea or schematic for the connector?

Omega General Help / Y26SE Engine number - where to find???
« on: 18 August 2009, 19:38:00 »
Title says it all. A bit of a newb question I know, but having spent 20 minutes with a torch under the bonnet I'm buggered if I can find the engine code (Omega 2.6V6, Y26SE engine)

I know it's on the carpass, and the V5, but I had (past tense!) a document from the 1st owner that said engine replaced at 40k, and I don't know if that means the V5/carpass would have been updated/re-issued on that.

So, unless someone has a magic box to verify VIN vs engine number, can anyone confirm where to start looking on the engine?

Omega General Help / '51 plate (facelift) - removal of door panel???
« on: 25 November 2006, 16:21:19 »
Hi,

Have a look at this (large image) -

I'm trying to get the door panel off to unstick / lubricate the door lock - it sometimes (often) doesn't open/close on the RCL, although can be actuated from the door lock plunger.

This problem, in itself, seems fairly common, and I just want to remove the door panel to clean-up and lubricate the locking mechanism / drive servo.

So, Haynes BoL doesn't cover this model, although I have a copy anyway, but the doors seem to be one of those items that're different between pre-facelift and facelift models.

I've found the screws ringed in RED, but by applyingsome pressure to remove the panel it's obvious there's something holding the panel on around the Green area (I've also shone a torch down behind the panel as much as I can, which confirms that there's something around there coupled to the door.

Any clues as to what's holding the last bit of the panel on?, and how to remove it?

My thoughts were on the door rubbish compartment (well, it's where the wife leaves all her rubbish, anyway), but that seems to be part of the main moulding of the door panel (and no obvious way to remove it). I've removed the window controls - seen dangling on their cable-form, but there's nothing behind those.

Any help gratefully received!

Cars for Sale & wanted / FS: 2001 Facelift Omega Elite Auto
« on: 15 August 2009, 15:34:03 »
For Sale:

My 2001 (51 plate) Facelift 2.6 Litre V6 Omega Elite, in silver Automatic, FF Sunroof.

Nearly 150k on the clock - 40k of that by me in the last 4 years. Lease-car upto 100k, then 2 private owners (if I'm reading the V5 correctly)

Taxed until end of December 09, MoT until July 10th 2010. Last MoT failed on play in track-rod ball joint - obviously repaired. One advisory outstanding against it - "Suspension joint offside lower dust cover split/missing." Similar on previous recent MoTs, so signs of a car with miles on.

Now, I'm not going to beat about the bush with this - it's got to an age where I'm just running it into the ground. There's a few things to be aware of:-

1) Cambelt should be done soon - I think it's pretty much got 40k on it, and a bit over 4 years. So common sense says this needs doing with some haste.
2) Service - it basically needs one, I keep meaning to do the fluids (1 yr old), and I've not changed the plugs since owning it, so you get the idea.
3) There's some oil weeping from the right-side bank (photo below)
4) I think it could do with the breather tubes cleaning (possible cause of 3. above)
5) Tyres aren't great - they're Michellin Primacys all around, but probably only have 3k miles or so left on them.
6) Power-Sounder has *cough* dropped off, after many months of irritating blips when leaving the car.
7) I had the oil cooler replaced when I first bought the car - having found mayo in the expansion tank. There's been no problem since, but I need to explain any mayo residue within the cooling system and the colour of the expansion tank.

Alloys were kerbed when I bought the car, and with some poor attempts made in the past to buff them up. I've just lived with them for the last 4 years. The paint on the sunroof is bubbling - exposing the alloy carrier for the glass - could be stripped back and repainted easily.

I've looked at all that, thought of the costs and the age of the car and decided I'm too old to be playing under the bonnet - for me, it'd cost more than I'm prepared to spend, and after 4 years I feel like a change, and a life back in a manual box. I'm offering it here for an enthusiast to take up.

So, negatives out of the way:-

Bose sound, with 4-CD changer (CCR2006), with steering controls
MFD - no bad pixels
Electric blind
Self-tinting rear-view mirror
Electric door wing mirrors (hmmm, passenger side = horizontal sweep only - sure it used to sweep vertically, too?)
Heated seats (front and rear)
AirCon / Climate (works fine)
Electric seats (driver with memory), self-adjusting mirrors coupled to this.
Space-saver spare - looking in good condition (I've only used it once, for ~10 miles).
Xenon headlamps / self levelling
1 3-button key, Car-Pass card, owners manual and audio manual / leather wallet.
4 months tax, 10 months MoT, and depending upon when I sell it, probably 1/2 tank of petrol :)

So, there you go - an 8/9 year old car with 150k miles on it. It's not pristine, and needs a bit of TLC to bring it back to its former glory. For my own experience, apart from the oil-cooler, and a replacement starter motor, it's provided 4 years of solid, reliable driving.

Offside wing - slight dent - metal not creased, paint not perforated, could be pulled out - very hard to make out in a photo, but obvious up-close-and-personal. About the size of a 10-pence coin, and a soft dent of a couple of millimetres

Now, I'm not sure what a reasonable price is, considering the work that needs doing. I'll open up at £750 and see where we go from there.

I am, however, keen to get this sorted as soon as possible. I've already got a replacement car lined up, and I don't want to be pratting about with keeping this car insured for any length of time - and I'm bloody keen to get my hands on my new car. I'd like this to go in days, rather than weeks, and I'm looking for someone who understands the faults listed above and isn't going to spend an hour kicking tyres before walking away.

If anyone wants any more info or piccies, either reply here or PM.

Location, by the way, is Preston, Lancashire.

Pretty boring and insurance-co friendly, I'm afraid, but still a nice model to look at

Anyone tried hunting for insurance online recently?, I've just been through some of the more obvious sites (Churchills, Tesco, RAC) and they *ALL* have the same set of questions, even the same design web-page / form entry (from the order of questions, through to whether boxes are pull-downs, string entry, and the same bloody opt-outs for spam). Looks very stepford-wives of the insurance world, they're all the same.

Or am I just getting paranoid?

(Hmmm, Churchill = £760, Tesco's = £480... still, having seen what Tesco's did for a colleague who parked in my boot, I'm not so sure...)
