Title: Immobiliser light flashing
Post by: Lagondanet on 29 March 2018, 08:33:08
Here we go again.
Car would not start this morning. Immobiliser light flashing.
Battery OK.
If I recall usual suspect is fuel and crank sensor. Is that right?
Will have to call my friendly AA man.
Dammit! Could not have failed at a better time.

Nope, immobiliser light flashing is the engine ECU is not getting the signal that the correct key is being used to start.

First check, have you recently had the key apart? If so, go back to where you took it apart, and look for the little transponder chip that's likely fallen out.

If you have a 2nd key, try that.

The system comprises of an immobiliser ECU around the ignition barrel. This is programmed to recognise the transponder chip in each key when you turn on ignition. If it sees a key that is paired to the immobiliser ECU, it then sends a coded message to the engine ECU, telling it the immobiliser has been deactivated.  The engine ECU will only accept such a message from the actual immobiliser ECU it has been paired to.

Is the solution safe to reveal on here, or have you joined the criminal fraternity?

Disconnect and reconnect the battery?

Disconnect and reconnect the battery?
Really?  Not sure how that could help. But ho-hum.

Car battery, or fob battery?

Ive had this before a few times on FL's, once the Imob fires a No Start and Flashing light it will not start again till a reset, you can do this by either diss'ing the Car Battery for a few mins or doing a reset procedure without dissing the battery, by removing Key, open door, shut door, lock up, unlock, open door then start again.

The above is assuming all is good with Transponder Chip and matching Immobilizer, ie another key. Dont ask me why but once the no start  is triggered it wont start again without doing this, even if the no start trigger was just a one off glitch with a working setup.

They do cop the arse if you go straight from key in to cranking without a pause at 1 or 2... :-\

Not noticed that on any of mine...  ...but then I've only had one inferior 3.2 model :P.

My beloved 3.0l used to get the hump if you did pause before cranking ;D
