I posted a topic last week concerning a recent problem I've had with my gear selector lights. Put it in 'D' and '3' lights up ect ect. James V6CDX told me it was more than likely the selector switch. After removing it and opening it up I noticed this (see pic) the PCB tracks have worn away right where the 'D' is in respect of the contacts..........



I guess its buggered!! Would anybody by chance have a known goodun and want to sell it??? I know they're about £100 new so can anyone help??

Seeing as you have dismantled the switch - why not have a go at resoldering the tracks?  I reckon done carefully with some tinned copper wire laid down where the track should be you would get a few more miles or "selections".  It is worth a go if nothing else.

Hi, well worth having a go, you can't do any damage to it as it already knackered.

Idealy you want some copper tape which you can use to replace the repaired tracks and then tin it all....

Hi guys......success!! What I did was take some coated wire strands from a computer monitor lead thats been in the scrap pile in the shed. I layed out a length in a flat orientation and soldered them together. I now had a flat strip so to speak. As solder is soft I was able to tap it wafer thin with a small hammer, shape an trim it to the required shape. Then i took some resin from one of those glass fibre kits and bonded it to the PCB. Once set (10 mins in sun) I carefully cleaned it up with wet and dry after just bridging the join with a blob of solder.......SORTED!. I was so impatient to get it back on I didnt take any pics so sorry guys. I really hope this is helpful for someone who has the same probs. It wont last forever but it will get you out of a muddle for a bit. Now I can simply select 'D' and she goes smoothly through the gears without going limp all the time. Thanks to everyone else for their support......

Nice one - and I like the use of reclaimed materials!!  Sounds like the sort of thing that I would have done.  Will be interesting to see how long it lasts.  In the meantime, happy motoring!

Cheers. Will keep you posted. I've got faith in it but it's a case of how long before another piece of track wears out? For a 9 year old she's done ok really. Just unfortunate that this particular item failed two weeks after buying it. I did forget to mention that when I split the switch casing it was half full of rusty water   so when I re-assembled it I just smeared the o-ring seal with a bit of hylomar.

Just thought id let everyone know that the cheap gear selector switch fix is stll going strong. Its been a couple of weeks and lots of short school runs as well as a couple of long hauls this weekend. Been peeing down to but everthing is working fine.
